Q: Can I keep a traveler that I really like?

A: By and large, yes! Most users are happy to see their travelers go to a permanent home, and might even say so in their traveler's biography. If it isn't clear to you, ask the original user.

*Note: If the original user has a dead account, adopting a dragon as your own shouldn't be a problem.

Q: What if I really don't want a traveler/have too many/want to leave the game?

A: The hub! The hub! Always go to the hub! Returning them to their original lairs also work. But under no circumstance should you ever willingly sell or exalt a traveler.

Q: Is it bad to keep sending travelers to the same user?

A: Usually not! If you're a thread frequent, you're bound to rub shoulders with the same users over and over again. You can always ask them, if you're nervous!

Q: Help! My dragon is in an exalting lair/was exalted!

A: Understand that a traveler always runs the risk of exaltation. This is no different than any site dragon outside of your immediate control. That being said, there is a special sting to it being a traveler - all of that lore and travel, lost in a button click.

If the dragon has been exalted, and you know who it was exalted by (you can often follow a trading path), approach them politely and privately. They do not owe you your dragon back. Tell them that it was a traveler and link to this thread or a trading thread. Treat this as a "heads up", not a confrontation. Most exalters do not check their exlatees' bios before sending them off. And they're usually used to being berated by users who are mad that their dragons were exalted, so keep your cool. Under FR's policies, implying that a user owes you the dragon back is considered harassment, no matter how politely you say it - and I don't want anyone's accounts getting striked. I promise you that there was most likely no ill intent.

I would suggest keeping copies of your traveler's bios on hand in case of exaltation, so they can potentially be moved to a new dragon (or at least memorialized properly). If a new traveler was exalted, I think it's best to simply put the saved bio on a new dragon and leave it at that.

If it was a dragon with a significant amount of lore/art/travel experience/etc, offer to pay the user the fee for unexalting a dragon, as well as giving them an actual fodder dragon. 95% of the time, they have gotten a traveler from a regular trading thread or bought them off of the fodder floor of the AH. Make their favor to you worth it, and never assume that they were intentionally exalting a traveler. Remember, though - nobody owes you an unexaltation, even for a traveler.

If the dragon has not been exalted, but is in an exalting tab of some kind, the same applies. Politely reach out and offer payment/fodder/etc.

Again, I cannot stress this enough: under FR policy, exalting traveling dragons is completely fine, so long as the exalter isn't specifically targeting travelers. FR operates under a "spirit of the game" basis - exalting is obviously a major part of FR and is therefore okay, no matter the dragon. But intentionally violating the spirit of the traveling dragon game is not. You can read more about that here.

If you have reason to believe that a user is intentionally exalting travelers, contact the mod team.

Q: This new traveler that I got seems kinda...lazily made. What now?

A: Take a step back! It can be hard sometimes to be a member of the traveling dragon thread. You put a lot of effort into making a nice looking traveler, with a lovely biography format, lore, art...and then you might get traded a dragon that simply says "this is a traveler" and has a list of usernames.

First, consider what you mean by "lazily made". A lot of people use travelers as a way to practicing writing, and might be still learning. Not everyone can code nice biographies, or draw. If there is some level of effort put into a traveler, even if it's not up to your expectations, give their owner the benefit of the doubt. We all have our preferences for how our "ideal" travelers look, and they don't all have to look the same. That's part of the traveling dragon magic!

That being said, you might encounter a traveler whose bio simply states that they are a traveler and has a list of usernames. Sometimes, people use the thread to swap in fodder and get prettier, more fleshed-out dragons in return. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some people see the thread as a no-exalt zone, and put a dragon that they really don't want to get exalted in. I think you have a few options in situations like this.

If you are very confident in saying that no effort has been put into a traveling dragon - and please, be extremely liberal with your definition of effort, because you have no idea what some users struggle to do - I think it's fair game to trade the dragon outside of a traveling thread. This is a matter of personal opinion, though, and I am sure that many users would disagree. If you are among them, then your second option is to revamp the traveler's profile. Give them one, to begin with! Write lore for them, or make art for them. Do something to make them worthy of that "traveler" definition. Sometimes, this is more fun than making your own traveler - it feels like giving a dragon a second chance at life.
