Once viewed as a violent, vile, and brutal form of magic, Chaosweavers were shunned by many others. The power to create monsters that fed off fear was simply too terrible. Those who practiced chaosweaving were attacked, thrown in jail, or cast out from their homes and families. For Chaosweavers everywhere, there was no hope, no sanctuary, and no one out there who cared for them. They were left to die, ideally quietly, and chaosweaving would be written off as a terrible evil that deserved to be stamped out. Generations of Chaosweavers slowly faded, either making the choice not to practice it anymore, or simply growing up with the blood but never hearing about the ancient magic. The last few Chaosweavers belonged to a family that had the resolve and desire to continue practicing. While their brothers and sisters were cast from their homes, the Last Family took them in. Within their compound the lost and forgotten were given a home and a family and were allowed to practice their magic. The Last Family were eventually found and driven out from their home. Instead of scattering and lying low, they fought back fiercely but were defeated. Those that were spared, led by the Last Family's only daughter Yskira, decided it was time to leave. With what little dignity and pride they had, Yskira led the last of her people away into the dark. Resolve and drive was something Yskira preached to the ruins of her people and her family as they walked for weeks on the Great Journey to Freedom. They hid like shadowy cats and stole from towns like rats to survive. All this time, Yskira continued to preach that freedom was coming. They were eventually found by a curious and lost child who needed a family. Yskira could not turn away a child. She accepted the child into the family, and the roots of a true and powerful community began to dig itself into ground. Determined to raise the child, the beaten and tired survivors of the war found strength once more and forged a path of their own. They found an abandoned town in the Ruby Isles and made their home there, calling out into the darkness for anyone else who needed help to seek shelter with them. Strength was in numbers, and freedom was theirs. The child grew up, surrounded by a family of people who were willing to give him everything. When Yskira passed, he was looked to for guidance. The only option was to continue to teach Yskira's ways and continue building the family, and create a home for Chaosweavers and those who were willing to learn the forgotten art. His true name was forgotten to time, and no one who knew it is around to say it anymore. That is why we call him the First Priest. Now I must ask you, stranger. It has drifted closer to the Windswept Plateau, granting it cooler temperatures. However, it has a perfect view of a red sun, painting the land with a red-orange light during the day. The sunset is almost purple in the Ruby Isles. The entire isles is occupied by Chaosweavers, who have grown so much that the island is comfortable for the number of dragons living there. There are four main houses, each occupying a part of the island. While each house has its own territory, travel between houses is very frequent and the land is shared among all. Led by High Priestess Razanhali, the Rising Bloods own the village of Sunrise and Hunter's Mark, a popular and lucrative hunting spot. Sunrise is responsible for being one of the largest concentrations of crown makers. Many people who are unable to make their own crowns are willing to travel to Sunrise to purchase a custom made one. The largest library in the Ruby Isles with some of the oldest books written by Chaosweavers is situated within the Infinite Eye's city. This house is sometimes called the House of Infinity, and is led by High Priest Ekganma. Before she passed, Yskira requested for her wings to be removed so she would stay grounded to watch after the Chaosweavers even after death. The First Priest did as instructed and removed her wings following her death. The wings were believed to be lost after a massive storm but were recovered by travelers at Chramock. It was formed when First Consort of the Rising Blood Vilkarei realised there was a surplus in artists intellects, and practitioners of ancient magic, but not enough people who were doing the common work like cooking, cleaning, and construction. Such tasks were often given to dragons who were unsuccessful at learning chaosweaving. Vilkarei showed them that even doing menial tasks was an excellent way to serve and did not mean they were worth less. Members of the Blood Fountain are often extremely handy and excellent multitaskers. Crowns are a headdress made of skulls, horns, feathers, fur, and other natural materials that are worn at other rites and rituals, or at milestones in life. The first crown is made by hatchlings before their Flight of Independence, where they fly across the entire isles without any parents or adults to guide them. The first crown has a base provided and can be decorated with anything found by the hatchlings, so parents often encourage kids to keep anything interesting they find while growing up. New crowns are made at milestones such as school graduations, weddings, and promotions. Each time a new crown is made, it becomes more intricate, personal, and larger. While crowns should be made by hand, some aren't able to and can purchase a custom made one from the town of Sunrise. It is considered extremely bad luck to throw away an old crown, and extremely disrespectful to deface someone else's crown. In the courts, to deface the crown of any court maid or consort is punishable by exile, and defacing the Priest's crown is punishable by death. The crowns of dead dragons are given to the next of kin to keep. If the crown isn't claimed, it is stored in the museum at the House of the Holy Wings.[/size] [size=5][b]Flight of Independence[/b][/size] [size=4]The Flight of Independence is the first milestone in every hatchling's life. It is an extremely grand ceremony where hatchlings get to create and design their first crown which they wear during the flight. All hatchlings that have completed flight school will gather at Yskira's Rest with their parents, families, and friends with their crowns. They launch themselves off from the great tree at the break of dawn and their their first unguided flight on a route that passes through all houses. Teachers are stationed at check points to ensure everyone has made it through, but otherwise the hatchlings only have each other. The flight usually takes between one to two hours, though the fastest record was 35 minutes. Upon return to Yskira's Rest, they are welcomed by their family and friends and officially become old enough to go out on their own. Once all hatchlings have returned, a party is thrown for them. This Flight of Independence occurs once every three months, so those who fail can always try again later.[/size] [size=5][b]Chaos Ceremony[/b][/size] [size=4]The Chaos ceremony is the largest party of the year where all Chaosweavers, regardless of house, come together for one massive banquet and ball. During this time, dances, buffets, parades, and balls are held by the Priests. The best dancers from across the Ruby Isles will perform for the Priests in a competition held before the Chaos Ceremony begins. To be selected to perform for the ceremony is the greatest honour one can receive.[/size] [size=5][b]Ranking in the Court[/b][/size] [size=4]This tradition is exclusive to court members only. During a maid's time serving the court, they are constantly watched by the First Consort and High Priest. Those who present exemplary behaviour in a variety of field are granted a promotion to the next rank. Promotions are often conducted suddenly. When the High Priest has decided to promote someone, the High Priest and First Consort will approach the maid. The maids in the area are expected to kneel immediately in the presence of both of them and to not kneel may make the High Priest change their mind. The High Priest will then address the chosen maid and announce her new title. The First Consort will present a scroll of the items she receives along with her title - often it is money, jewelry, or treasured artifacts depending on the rank. Once the High Priest and First Consort leave, the maids may get up and the chosen maid may go to move her things to her new residential area and collect her gifts. It is easy to go from a fifth rank to a fourth rank, but it becomes far more difficult to get to third rank, and near impossible to get to a second rank. To become a second ranked First Consort, one must earn the personal favour of the High Priest.
