Why are there so many variations on the flag? Why do we have so many flags? The rainbow flag has seen changes over the years. Many version have graced the pride movement and community over the years, but the original is one of the most lovely of them all. The original pride flag was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978 by hand. It originally had 8 stripes, representing the magic of the movement. It was then later rivised; Pink was removed soon after due to the fabric being widely unavailable. The popular six-stripe version came to be in '79, where indigo and turquoise were revised into the popular royal blue. A year or so ago black and brown were added to the flag to represent people of color that are LGBTQ+ since pride and the pride movement was majorly started by minorities in the U.S. This flag is known as the Philadelphia Pride flag. There is no official flag as of yet, since there's so many different ones in circulation. Two in particular stick out; the Lipstick lesbian and the newer variation. The Lipstick Lesbian flag has been around a while, and for simplicity the original was changed- removing the kiss mark to make it easier to mass produce, as well as vector for online use. It was the main flag until just this year when a major amount of the community switched to the new standard- orange and pink. It was changed for inclusivity, to include lesbians who were both femme and butch, as well as gender non-conforming or non-binary. Being born intersex is a medical condition where sex characteristics don't fit a narrow standard defined by the medical field. It can present in many ways- at birth, through chromosomes or hormones, during puberty, ect. Many people born intersex will identify with their assigned gender at birth, while others may transition or identify with another. Many are also queer in attraction, while others are not. It's a complex issue, and you shouldn't state that all Intersex people are inherently queer, as many people do not identify with that label.
