your art improvement? | Creative Corner

I love looking at everyone's art improvements. :D
Improvement is something that can happen so gradually, so sneakily, that it can seem nearly invisible until you look back at your previous works.

I've been doing a Redraw Challenge since 2005, and it's pretty neat to be able to look back and see how far I've improved since then!
The redraws always feature the same character, and it's interesting how it has evolved over the years.

For this I'm going to focus on a "smaller" scale of improvement! So basically how much I've improved over the course of around two years. Please forgive the large images I couldn't figure out a way to quickly make them smaller. :') FIRST COMPARISON: This one is from December 19, 2017 I remember being so proud of this one. It started off as a sketch I did while I was bored in class. It was meant to essentially just be how I was feeling at the time and I ended up liking it enough to "refine" it. [img]https://i.imgur.com/TJQnkWO.png[/img] And this is from October 25, 2018 It's a little older than all that and looking back on it there's a lot I don't like but there's also some bits and pieces that I can appreciate. The rocks are something I feel like I did well! [img]https://i.imgur.com/Poj2nob.png[/img] SECOND COMPARISON This one is from December 20, 2017 I also find this one embarassing. Both of the older pieces fall in that realm where they're old enough that you can consider them "old pieces" but they're also new enough that you can remember making it. I love the glow from his cigarette and the graffiti on the wall behind him. Man, I really should do some redraws...

In contrast, these are my most recent dragon drawings.

Up next is my first iteration of Bernard from September 2015.

And his later final design and a more recent drawing I made at work in winter 2018.

As of about noon today during a class I wasn't focused in, this is my new favorite art style.

Mind you about 95% of all my art is done during class or at work when I have no access to any references, so you know.

I could only draw simple straight lines over my sketches, and bust drawings or headshots are usually off proportions. No shading, only flat colors..

Fast forward late 2018-2019 i started drawing for commissions as i wanted to improve myself (but usually i have no idea what to draw)

Here's my latest one :

Learned faster by doing sketches every day, practicing poses and hairs, and coloring (even though i think my style still sort of sticks to simple flat colors). But im still learning how to shade properly.
