I think it's a very good start!
I think, if you want to keep improving, focus on one thing at a time and see what you can tinker with. Frex, try painting a piece with a harsher lightsource, to give you practice with deeper shadow and how they affect color, texture, etc.

Yeah, Lighting seems to be my biggest problem, since I only have a sketch, but no lightsource. I need to start studying dragons to see how light reacts to them more tbh

Since your derg's wearing a birdskull, and that's the focus of the face, you could probably just find ref of a skull in bright light and use that.
Not a bird, but I had the photo handy:

Also, sometimes, when I am confused about how lighting does its thing, I take a photo of something and just turn the contrast up to 11:

It helps me see where I might break stuff down into highlights, midtones, and shadows a little easier.

You've got a good start here! And yeah, you should always decide where the light source is before painting.
It really helps if you build a 3D model out of clay when you're painting. That way, you'll have a 1:1 reference of what you're drawing and you can set up the lighting however you want. Good luck!
