Hello fellow FR players!

I work on building a school in the Harry Potter universe. I noticed that huge parts of the world got left out so I will at least try to fill the gap when it comes to the Nordic countries.

Wherever you're from I would love if you answered these questions and you will get sorted to a house. It will be fun for you and for me and help in the building of the extended Herry Potter universe. You don't have to answer all the question, but the more information the more accurate result. Post a comment with the answers or send a PM and you will get an answer in up to one day :)

Skip to the questions further down or read the short summary of the school and houses.

If you just want to get more information about the school or write about another school of witchcraft and wizardry you can do it here :) Be creative, I would love to hear about other schools

Information about the school

The school was founded around 800 A.D. on the boarder of Norway and Sweden. Today close to 2000 students from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland attend the school every year.

Information about the houses

The houses are founded to honor the asa gods who had helped humans for generations. The houses are Odin, Thor, Loki, Baldr, Brage and Heimdallr.

Odin is the house for brave and mighty wizards and witches. They are natural leaders and have potential to reach greatness.

Thor is the house for the brave and powerful wizards and witches. They are powerful, loyal and usually work as full time adventurers our aurors.

Loki is the house of the intelligent and structured. They value friendship and knowledge and have a natural gift for wit.

Baldr is the house of wizards and witches who value moral and loyalty. They are great at reading people and understand their own feelings. They love beauty and nature.

Brage is the house of the philosophers. They are great talkers and love to read. They like poetry, arguments and discussions. Wizards and witches have easy to get long in life and get high positions at work that's to their great minds and talkative personality. However they're also thinkers and can stay quiet for long periods of times.

Heimdallr is the house for the wise. They can easily get a grip of complex matters and difficult spells. They have a love of learning and absorb new information.

There are more information and if you’re interested just ask me and I will provide you with some. This was just a brief summary.

Here are simple banners for five out of the six houses. From the left; Odin, Thor, Loki, Heimdallr, Brage

The houses have each three signature colors, they are:
Tor - crimson, gold, sienna
Odin - midnight blue, royal blue, silver
Loke - forest green, silver, snow
Heimdallr - navy, goldenrod, ivory
Brage - indigo, gainsboro, white

I have yet not decided which colors Baldr should wear, I would appreciate suggestions :)

Every house has also an old Norse animal who is part of the house's sigill.
Odin - the two ravens Hugin och Munin
Thor - brown bear
Loki - lynx
Heimdallr - white tailed eagle
Brage - wolf
Baldr - red deer (stag)

The Sorting Ceremony

The sorting ceremony takes place in the great mountain hall the evening of arrival for all the students. The sorting of the first year students is done by an iron broche forged in the fire of an Icelandic volcanoious dragon. The broche has the shape of a circle, in the circle is the tree Yggdrasil, around the circle are the houses’ sigils and on one branch each sits the ravens Huginn and Muninn. When a student is getting sorted the broche floats over the students heart, Huginn and Muninn leaves their branches to map the students heart and mind, when they are done they sit themselves down on the sigil that represent the house that the student is most suited to. The ravens usually choose the same house, though it does happen that they choose different and then it is up to the student to choose between the two houses.

The Great Mountain Hall

The great mountain hall is the hall of the school that serves as canteen and a meeting place where announcements to all students and staff are held. The hall is carved out of the mountains, the roof is simple and natural, from the roof are stalactites growing and they are shimmering in the light of flickering flames. The walls of the hall are all covered in paintings, runes and old writing from when Middall was founded till about 1300 A.D. The art are memories from the past, therefore they are sometimes covered in velvet draperies to silent the memories (that are fond of making noises).

Every house has each a long table, similar to the ones in the great hall of Hogwarts, furthest to the left from the entrance is the table of Baldr, next to Baldr is Thor, then Odin, Brage, Heimdall and Loki. There are two staff tables standing in the inner part of the hall (vertical to the houses’ tables). Important to mention is that the students are of course allowed to sit and eat with friends from other houses but there are occasions where everyone must sit with their house’s table, for example during the arrival evening.

The Dormitories and Common Rooms

Each house has it’s own dormitories and common room, to access them you need a password or another type of code. Only the members to the house are allowed to know the password, however it is allowed for students to visit another house’s common room on invitation between 10:00-18.00, though it’s not allowed for them to visit any of the dormitories.

The common rooms are either one big room or multiple smaller rooms with fireplaces, bookshelves, sofas, chairs and tables. A house’s common room is mostly decorated in the colors of the house. The common room is a place for students to hang out, conversate, play games, study and more.

The dormitories can hold 6-8 persons each. Each student has an own bed, bookshelf, desk and bureau. In a dormitory lives students of the same grade and for the most parts the same gender. Students from the same house are allowed to visit each other’s dormitories on invitation and permission from everyone in that particular dormitory.

Social Sciences

The students at Middall have the same classes as at Hogwarts except from the additional class social sciences. In social sciences they learn about both the wizarding world and the muggle society.

This is probably a consequence of the wizards and witches in the Nordic countries living so close to the muggles and many have friends and family who are muggles. Of course it is forbidden to expose the wizarding world but the laws are less strict than in America, it is allowed to tell a muggle of the wizarding world if the muggle is very close to the wizard or witch.

Receiving the letter

The students start to go to the school when they’re eleven years old. They receive their letter of acceptance in the summer the same year as they start. The arrival day is always the 20th of August despite of being weekend.

If the student is from a muggle family the whole family will get a visit from someone from the staff of the school, usually a teacher. To explain to a family that there is another reality is very difficult, it takes a lot of time and some muggle families need more than one visit to accept all the new information.

The letters don’t always come with owl post because it’s not usual to see owls in the cities and it could expose the wizarding world. To the cities the letter is sent the muggle way, however to smaller towns and isolated places the owls often are the bringer of the letters.

More to come :)

Nice, a Nordic version of Hogwarts! (As a Swede, I aprrove of this idea!) I like the insperation for the house names, norse mythology definitely suit the magical world of Harry Potter. @CelestialNarwhal Thank you so much for your reply. The last questions were just to fill in more information about yourself, about you and if you have any dreams for the futures etc. Sorry if I was unclear, anyways I have an answer for you...

So, as you believed you do belong to Baldr with 42,8% and Heimdallr is in a good 3rd place with 36,4%. From what I've interpreted you could be in almost any house except from Brage, I don't think that you would feel at home there.

Here are your results:
H 36,4%
O 27,3%
L 38,1%
T 28,6 %
Ba 42,8%
Br 14,3%

@Nixpix thanks for liking the idea. I'm from Sweden too and I love Norse mythology! You will get your answer tomorrow :), I'm going to bed now, have to get up early to morrow and I don't know have to read all the answer in an effective way hehe. See you tomorrow :)

@Nixpix I have your result. Odin is a really nice house to be in, you could say that it's similar to giffindor they are brave and powerful. However, they also value loyalty, listen to others, have a great sense of making good decisions and are generally wise.

Why Loki and Heimdallr came in second and third place is because the houses are similiar, but Odin has more in common with Baldr than Loki and Heimdallr have with Baldr. People in Odin house can be creative but I think that your creative side comes from Baldr so the precentage of Baldr should in fact be higher.

I'm sorry but it's only a slight chance for you to come to the house Brage, you're just to genuinely nice.

Want to know a cool thing about Odin? The house animal and also sigill are the two ravens Hugin and Munin. Every house has a sigill and animal and I will post them later :)

The results:

O - 50,0%
L - 42,9%
H - 36,4 %
Ba - 33,3%
T - 23,8%
Br - 19,0%

@soiiia

Oh, I got Odin! That's cool! :D Totally ok with that, don't worry. I just picked two of the houses that I thought sounded interesting to me but Odin is definitely also an awesome house to be in~
I just imaged Odin students having ravens that deliver their letters rather than owls.

So excited to learn more about my house as well as the other houses and the school. Can't wait! :D
