Would it be better to wander Sorneith alone, or can they find strength in each other? A story of trust, hardship, and the truth of friendship (including all the hardship involved in trusting one another). Interested? The lore is composed of two parts: chapters and extras. Chapters will be just as they sound, normal parts of the story progression written from the point of view of one of the main characters. Extras will be added tidbits in the form of letters to family on Laelia's side, extra scenes involving the characters, and fun yet overall unessential to the story reads. It's likely that there will be even more added down the line. If you plan to stay a while, please do enjoy your stay. Wandering the world alone, these two souls crossed paths.

She held the banner of her great progeny when she willed it and only when she willed it.

"It diffuses? Your poisons are lot like this conversation, then."

Meet Laelia, a smart - in more ways than one - Skydancer with priorities ranked like the generations of her family, the Night Warriors. As it so happens, her own code ranks before any that her family have set for their whole lineage.

A little less empathetic than one would expect of her kind, a little less honor bound than one would expect from a Night Warrior, but exactly what you would expect of a girl sick of dragons pandering to the past instead of forging their futures.

Daughter of the Frozen Maiden
(A 100 Hatchlings Challenge)

Born with all of the cruel intellect of her mother, she learned to conceal that fact, lest she be taken as another pawn for Eira's army. -Fletcher

"She'll confuse you, make your blood boil, then catch you so off guard that you're confused again. Infuriating doesn't begin to cover it."

Meet Zura, a dragon who wants to bury her past and maybe more (maybe a certain Skydancer at times), into the Ice that she hails from. As she flees the shadow of the Frozen Maiden, the power hungry, parasitic sorceress Zura calls her mother, she finds that the path to making a life for herself has more trials than she could have seen coming.

30183910_350.png

Their only question now is whether an unexpected friend will be a curse or a blessing on the path they walk.

The dragon herself would say that she could not be lost, for she had no destination. She was deep into a town, a bay or quay, or both, as they were all the same in her understanding. Sea spray soaked the salt stones under her claws, as she breathed a quiet sigh. Waves crashed and boats creaked in the ever-turbulent wind, but few souls wandered the streets. The night was so dead that even the moon would not come out and glisten on the waters. Even the goblin of hers had fled her side to find somewhere else to be. Cold seeped into her gem. A flick of wings, glass shattered, hissing and steaming multicolored liquids coated the stones she had stood on moments ago. A noxious gas melded with the salt in the air. She relaxed her wings and body again, soothing her muscles into a calm stance. Her gem and head tingled enough to disorient. “I’m sorry, they slipped out of my satchel. Are you injured? Did any of it get on you?” a torrent of questions directed her gaze to a far larger figure than hers. “No, none of it touched me.” the Skydancer closed her eyes. Pushing her breed’s gift down, she brushed off her coat. Slower, repetitive movements seemed to aid the process. Once her head was clear, she turned a curious gaze to look at the dragon in front of her. Cream crystals glistened on the dragon’s wings with a mottled black and white patterning on the rest of them. She couldn’t make out their expression against the cloud cover, but the figure was at least double her size. “Good.” the dragon, female by the sound of her voice, murmured. The tingling in the Skydancer’s gem receded. “I’m sorry again, you are?” the other dragon asked. “Laelia.” she answered, tapping her gem. The energy in it tightened, though Laelia would much rather have concerned herself with how dry salt made the air around so much water. It was ridiculous. The last place in Sorneith that should have been dry. Between herself and her homeland, she had enough of it for quite a long while. “I’m Zura,” the larger dragon said, dropping a cloth onto the spill. “I hope those weren’t too costly.” Laelia backed away from the solution, raising her head to see the cloth tossed into the sea far below them. “Hardly. I’m glad the poisons didn’t touch you though.” Zura said, tossing a worn sack over her wing. Judging by the hole in it, it had held those poisons before they fell to the ground. Not exactly alchemist-grade storage, but alchemy was never her strong point. She turned her gaze back to the rolling, glistening waves. The remaining poison only faintly glowed in the corner of her eye. Salt and fish filled the air as another gale swept the lane. It was almost as it was before, but the other dragon remained. “For once, I’m glad I was trained to avoid such accidents.” Laelia said with a drawn smirk. “You were trained to fight?” Zura asked. “Something like that.” she shrugged off the question, and her gem went from warm to icy. “I see,” Zura murmured again. “Say, do you know where the nearest inn is?” “I do not, but I would imagine it would aid both of us, if I went to look with you. I need to find one as well. Find my goblin too.” Laelia said, sticking her claws in her pockets. “So which way would you like to go, and where are you from, Zura?” Laelia asked, finally turning to look at the other dragon, then down both sides of the road before them. Shops and seashells lined parallel paths. “Away from the boats I just got off of.” Zura said firmly. “Very well then. I wasn’t intending on visiting the Icefields just yet anyway.” Laelia said. The pair wound down the beaten stones. Wind chimes jingled harshly, and while the two moved without malice, both held an air of purpose. If Zura was moving too quickly, for an Imperial...Laelia had endurance to keep pace, she said nothing of it. “The Icefields would be too much of a change from where I’m from. I’ve spent enough time underground, and I think Ice clans would probably have much smaller trading outposts. Ah, too cold.” Laelia said. “It’s,” Zura paused to examine whatever was left of her sack. “a lot of caves. What about you? You didn’t even turn to look, when the potions spilled. You just cracked like a whip, not even mentioning that you neither flinched nor reacted to it. It looked very second nature to you. More than muscle memory to see or sense the signs of danger.” “Training, training, training. It’s all in the training.” Laelia chimed, coming to a fluid halt. “How does that place look?” A warm, open doorway with a kite for a sign beckoned. The place looked like paper, but it seemed to hold in the winds. That or it simply let the winds whistle right through with no resistance. If it picked itself up and flew, no dragon would bat an eye. Perhaps the Imperial would, judging by her frown, but the winds shifted just as much as the dragons here. “Fine, but are you really okay with staying in the same inn as a dragon, who almost poisoned you? The acid could have corroded your wings off in minutes.” Zura asked. “Me? Oh, I’m fine. I sense no danger or ill intent from you. If anything I’m more worried about the maren and dragons in the water. Didn’t you practically throw poison at them?” “The poison diffuses in that much water.” “Oh, so it’s like this whole conversation then? Wonderful.” Laelia said, making her way inside. Zura followed through and drowned in a spiral of welcomes from Spirals themselves. The Skydancer drifted into the crowd with a chuckle. She would have quite the story to send home from this. Chapter One - A Chance Encounter

Sparkling Goblin
She was lost, so any other dragon would say.
