a lore hatchery by spiderbakesale
Hoots and hollers from creatures in the thick undergrowth surround you as you press on, unsure of what exactly it is you are looking for. The Shrieking Wilds have always been dangerous for outsiders, threatening to take unwary travelers into the depths to never be seen again. On every side of you there are golden flowers. In the brush along the bushes, growing in tangled vines up the sides of great trees and hanging from the overgrown canopy. They're whispering to you, you can almost make out the sounds. It has to be the flowers, every time you pass there is another one whispering and you haven't actually seen another living creature for hours now. Why are you here, again? Did that rumor of a stationary Troupe of dragons really get you all the way out here, searching for them in their own tangled wilds? Well, whatever reason you're here, the flowers have you now. You're in good roots for now. Stay on the path and don't lean to close, they're not whispering anything nice anyway.
Suddenly there is silence all around, the creatures in the wilds fall silent and that whispering has stopped. The flowers almost seem to bend and shiver, pointing ahead. Do you dare listen to the flowers? So many others have and so many others have never returned. The Gladekeeper is good at getting rid of bodies. But you're not here to harm, nor are you here specifically for a show by the greatest hidden Troupe in the land. You're here for hatchlings, for one reason or another. And you've found them.
Following the path of the flowers, you come into a small clearing beneath the canopy. Nests and small shelters line the outside of the circle while the middle is filled with little dragons. Upon seeing them, the noises flood back in. The flowers are no longer whispering, or maybe they are but the sound of happy, rambunctious youngsters has overpowered the flowers. They didn't have anything nice to say, anyway. Here is what you've come all this way for. The Troupe has a long history of sending their offspring into the world and you have been enticed by their traveling advertisements. Which hatchling will you bring home, what story will they have? You've made it this far, you're safe. You wouldn't have gotten here if the flowers didn't like you.

Children from this pair are well-read and eager to learn. Most often, these hatchlings have spent many moons in the libraries of light clans. Their affinity for learning makes them excellent historians and wonderful writers, if given a scribe to do the actual writing since they're not very adept at holding writing utensils. Hatchlings from Pumpkin and Crius can also fill the role of ambassadors, judges, and other positions that require wisdom and restraint. Being such natural leaders can sometimes create dragons bent on fixing things in their own image at any cost. These are the hatchlings that tend to go off early from their home since their personality grinds against that of their parents.

There is a long history of Emperors in this family line, starting way back when the threat was new and nearly unheard of. With fear of becoming an undead amalgamate of the once-great imperial dragons, the hatchlings of this family very rarely stay together in family groups and will go as far as they can to get away from their siblings, their father, and other imperials. These hatchlings make wonderful ambassadors as they are trained from an early age to be diplomatic and courteous. They are well read and deeply loved by their mother, who enjoys hearing from them no matter how long they've been out of the nest. Although many of the dragons in this family line are friendly and goodhearted, there is a darker side. History is doomed to repeat itself and some of the imperial hatchlings aren't put off by the stories of their ancestors. The few who delve into researching their dark past are disowned by both their parents.

Hatchlings from this pair are incredibly quick, for tundra. Their intelligence is greater than many expect tundra to have and therefore, they can often confuse their enemies and any who might undervalue them. Both parents are in a band of thieves and are considered the Prince and Princess of thieves. This makes their hatchlings honorary royalty and some of them take that very seriously. Their mastery of thievery is cemented in them before they leave the Troupe, causing some trouble once they enter their new clans. Many of the hatchlings will travel to shady clans and work underground networks of trade. A lot of the tundra from this pairing make excellent fences as their affable, kind faces often put the law off of their trail. Every so often there is a hatchling that doesn't follow in their parent's footsteps and chooses to forgo the art of thievery. It's alright, their family loves them anyway. Loyalty runs deep in this bloodline.
