I'll be back (...again) in a few days once I have more money... BUT

How do you feel about working around a guard/prisoner or a similar dynamic?

Her eyes always shone for him, his teeth always flashed at her.

Darling, whatever made you believe I wasn't a monster?

@Ebanon I can absolutely work with guard/prisoner with the specification/nuance that I am not going to write about a coercive relationship or one where the participants are going to be actively harmed by their relationship.

Note: That doesn't mean it can't be generally dark or even toxic though lol. If you read back over the dark romance fills I did for MyrrhDarkwing, you should be able to see what I mean. Even Etienne who got literally kidnapped into a relationship with a stalker is going to wind up happier and better off for it because the very act of being kidnapped meets a deep unmet need for him AND his partner would never actually hurt him.

Perfect! In that case, yeah, absolutely. If there's any specific thing you're worried about TOS for, give the TOS another read - I linked the relevant section in my intro post - and proceed accordingly, and I'll do the same for my side

KRAIT, for @skeletalecho 's Whalefall. Krait Pronouns: They/them, it/its. Profession: Former servant, current hunter/scavenger. Krait is a vividly patterned, spectral-looking dragon with the goat eyes typical of dragons who are able to act as safeguards and controls for dragons with multi-gaze eldritch vision. They are quiet, reserved, and extremely suspicious of other dragons, frequently on-edge and prone to biting without warning if they feel threatened. Krait has no idea who their parents are. They were kidnapped shortly after hatching by a guardian who was desperate to use their goat eyes to stabilize her own child's multigaze visions, and were raised as basically the service animal/pet playmate for the guardian's multigaze heir. They grew up knowing that they weren't really a person in the same way as the heir was, and that they were absolutely expendable if they weren't good and didn't play nice and help out with the visions. They just followed the heir around as a silent shadow, making sure that visions didn't disrupt their everyday life. People occasionally had some questions, but the guardian parent was known to be irrationally overprotective and defensive about her personal life, particularly her child/charge, so mostly people just assumed that Krait was there for a good reason and left it alone. The heir was casually cruel to Krait - not necessarily in the manner of wanting to hurt them, but in the way of a child who knows that they can get away with doing whatever they want and Krait can't do anything about it, because any sign of temper or threat from Krait to the heir was absolutely unacceptable to the guardian parent. Finally, when they were both young adults on a family trip to the ocean, it occurred to Krait in one brilliant, shining moment that they could just... leave. They escaped into the sea in the middle of the night, and just kept swimming all night into increasingly dark and abyssal depths until they were too exhausted to keep going, and holed up in a crevice in the rocks to sleep. They were absolutely convinced the guardian parent was going to find them, but they made themself very quiet and very hidden and tucked away, and waited until night fell again. Then they moved onwards even further, getting as far away from their original home as possible. The guardian must have looked for them, they're sure, but it's been several years and they haven't been found. As long as they keep away from other dragons, they'll be fine. Being alone suited them for a while, but after some years of speaking to nearly no one, they have gotten pretty lonely. Krait probably meets Whalefall when Whalefall makes a big kill of some great leviathan beast. Krait is a functional hunter, but never a great one. No one ever taught them how to hunt effectively, so they scavenge as much as they can. Once Whalefall's eaten its fill and gone away for a bit, Krait sneaks out to eat from what it left behind, and gets caught. Krait immediately panics, hisses, and tries to bite, but is rapidly subdued. Whalefall easily establishes dominance and drives Krait off the kill, but Krait comes sneaking back the next night to eat again. This time Whalefall has feinted leaving to lie in wait for Krait to return, and catches them again. This time they end up talking a bit, and Krait becomes noticeably less tense when it's clear that Whalefall doesn't talk to other dragons much, and has little to no interest in their eye-type. Sure, Whalefall's a great terrifying oceanic predator, but that's something Krait can handle much better than a person who wants to hurt them. Whalefall in turn is intrigued by Krait's growing confidence around them, and they eventually wind up traveling together. Krait learns how to hunt from Whalefall, and the two of them can hunt more effectively than either alone. As they grow closer, Krait eventually talks about how they grew up, and Whalefall makes it clear that she will protect Krait and kill anyone who tries to come for them, and Krait fully believes her. They are utterly devoted to Whalefall after that. They curl up close to it at night, nestled in its wing-fins, and finally feel safe and wanted.

Krait
Pronouns: They/them, it/its.
