They're the idea that life on earth actually came from another world. This may have been intentional, or accidental, but a lot of my favorite sentai and shonen anime really love to play with this, which is why they look like a Sentai character. X3 They represent conspiracy, the weirdness of life on earth, inexplicable ruins, alien communcation with earth and hell yes, sentai! (sorry for two in a row, but heck might as well keep on rolling!)
