As tempting as a crap ton of gems sounds, I'd prefer to get them as I make them ^^; Just in case something comes up before I finish that prevents me from continuing, I'd hate to have taken your gems and not be able to finish.
I've seen too many instances of rl problems, or account bannings (purposeful or mistakenly) that cut artists off from clients mid-commission.
I'd rather be safe than sorry!
EDIT: That said, you can always send the gems once I confirm I've started working. You don't have to wait til I finish.
