Ghostfreak
"Crazed Warrior / Neutral Evil"

That you'll stick around
Stay on my side of town
Now I'm covered in blood
and I'm feeding off your pretty little lies.

Possessed by the many spirits anchored by their bones to the crown he wears, Ghostfreak is a half-dead being of incomprehensible reason, his methods driven by too many howling voices of the dead to be able to make sense to anyone. Driving him from pure insanity is his curiosity, always seeking out answers to long forgotten questions and riddles. The voices tearing away his few friends and family, leaving him in isolation for the longest of times. Until he met Leech. She understood. She fights for him. She is his life-line. He drills this in his head daily. Before he was lost, scared, depressed. With her, he feels normal, the very thing he dreams of being. Ghostfreak is extremely protective of his mate and he rarely lets her leave his side. Try and separate the two, you may just disappear.

Everyday he tries to keep it together for the both of them, tuning out the continuous screaming that rattles inside his head. It has become a chore, but ever since he found a new home and mate, he has begin to improved. Some days he almost feels normal. However, sooner or later his days deteriorates to clawing at his skin, trying to tear all the agony he feels. The agony is not all him, but of these tortured spirits inside his head. No one knows when he will snap. No one can blame him if he ever does. His team, his leader, his mate, his child; all are battling to keep him away from the swirling insanity.

~

Phantom had sent him to handle an alliance with a Plague clan. It had seemed easy enough when he accepted the job. But he had forgotten to fully take into consideration the nature of Plague. There were plenty of dead in this land. Many, many, ghosts, and not happy ones. Dragons that had died in brutal violence, or worse, after long and agonizing illness. Their voices chattered in his ears and cluttered his thoughts. Help me…save me..spare me…let me die…

It was impossible to think, much less remember and follow directions. He was hopelessly lost- he couldn’t even be sure he was anywhere close to where he should have been. Through the din of his own mind, he heard a crunch. A bone snapping underfoot of a nearby dragon. He looked up to see a dragoness. A wildclaw, like him, and a Plague native. Her wings were torn, her legs and chest bloody, and a strand of bones dangled across her frame like wind chimes.

He didn’t even manage a greeting. With a broad smile, she said “I can do whatever I want to trespassers.” And leaped, attacking him. He barely managed to block her teeth from his throat in time. She had surprised him, but once he focused on fighting, he could tell that he was clearly superior, a more experienced fighter. She made impractical attacks, used backwards strategies. He could have won in instants- but his curiosity got the better of him.

With the confusion that was his mind, curiosity was the only thing he had. It gave him a goal, directed his thoughts. And right now, all he wanted to know was who this dragon was. What was her lair like? Who was she, that she would attack a stranger without provocation? That she would be so confident in her fighting abilities, despite her inexperience? He wanted to know her. So he wailed, each time she clawed him. He slowed and pretended to limp. And when she made an obvious attempt at his throat, he didn’t stop her. “I surrender.” He whispered, trying to look defeated.

She took him back as a prisoner of her clan. She was delighted at her ‘success’ and bragged to her clan mates about her prowess in the fight. Ghostfreak simply did his best to be a good prisoner. He caused no fights, never rebelled. It gave him plenty of opportunity to observe the clan, and most importantly, his ‘captor’, Leech. She kept bones everywhere. And he learned (though she never used it against him) it was her job to torture enemies. She would visit him, sometimes. At first, merely to taunt him. But eventually, they would chat, almost like friends. She seemed genuinely curious about him, asking about his clan and his life. He learned about her in return, and the more he heard, the more she fascinated him.

But he couldn’t stay forever. As a prisoner, he was in no immediate danger. But he had been sent out on a diplomatic mission. This long without a response, Pyroclast and John would get worried. It was time he returned to his own clan, and his home.

His escape required cleverness. As a prisoner, he was allowed no items. But he used his growing friendship (was it really friendship?) with Leech to his advantage. He expressed admiration for her bone collection. After much pleading and cajoling, she game him one skull. Breaking a tooth off of that skull, he used it as a lock-pick. There were guards- he snuck past them when he could. He wanted no more mess than absolutely necessary. But stealth wasn’t enough- when he had no other option he fought. He fought with all the strength and power he had held back in his fight with Leech. Even the best of them could not match him. Leaving unconscious dragons in his wake, he fled.

He reached home after two days of travelling through plague, fighting whatever wandering monsters got in his way. Having returned, he told the story to Pyroclast and John. To his surprise, he felt a little pang when he described Leech. Was it possible he missed her? He had a while of quiet peace at home, back to normal. But after a few weeks, he was surprised to see a familiar face at his doorstep.

Leech claimed to want to learn from him. She wanted to know how he fought, to have his power. But as time went on, they found they worked well together even away from the battlefield. There was some protest when she asked to join their clan- she had imprisoned one of them, after all. But Ghostfreak insisted. Strangely enough, she helped him in ways no one else could. She didn’t question his hearing spirits, but would guide him through each time. She said her skulls ‘watched over’ her, and extended that same protection to him. They were both fiercely defensive of one another. They were both ‘crazy’, both living in a world of death. They understood each other. Detached from the ‘normal’ living world, they found solace and completion in one another.
