From birth, Kurz loved fireworks. Hailing from the Shifting Expanse, he grew afraid of the sky, due to the unending thunderstorms ravaging the world above his head. Because of this, he envied fireworks for their ability to effortlessly brave the clouds, and loved to hang around a skillful firework artist. The two got along well, and he even learned how to craft fireworks.

However, one night, during a festival, disaster struck. Somehow, Kurz had gotten himself stuck on a firework, and was rocketed into the sky. The artist, despite age, flew after the firework carrying Kurz, up and into the deadly, lightning-filled clouds. An explosion was heard, and they both seemingly vanished. The rest of Kurz's clan searched for him and the firework maker for weeks, never finding a single trace. He was assumed to be dead, and his life was written down as a tragedy.

Years later, a strange dragon was found wandering the Starwood Strand by Nymstryx. The dragon's face was no more then bone, lightning burns streaking his hide and turning it ashen, with wings glistening like a raging fire. His eyes were empty, yet shining with the power of lightning, and after being brought back to Nymstryx's lair, was patched up and assigned as a guard to the treasure hoard. The crimson bandages wrapping his legs cover the worst of the scars and burns, and he refuses to take them off. His personality is empty, emotionless, seeming to have no desires or wishes. His only purpose is to guard the treasure hoard and food stores, yet, no dragon has seen him eat. He does not fly, and avoids touching any fireworks or similar explosive object the other dragons might require..
