Biography

xxx
shadowshieldr.png Uh-oh, looks like this Enchanted Shadow wandered a little too far from his/her home lair (Serenitairium, 90451) and now s/he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, s/he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him/her to the home lair, or to the Dragons Off To See The World thread, here. This is not necessary, but s/he would be very grateful! If you decide you don’t want a travelling dragon in return you could also send her to the Travelling dragons rest hub!xxx

★ Lore

In the vast kingdom, nestled between whispering forests and rolling hills, the shadows held secrets that danced just beyond the reach of the ordinary. The magic lingering in the air danced more violently than ever before, while most went about their daily lives purposely ignoring it, as it had happened a few times before, Lyla being Lyla with a wild imagination and an insatiable curiosity.

Lyla, having the peculiar gift that most shadows did, she could see the whispers of shadows dancing in and out of shape. She noticed the way they fluttered like delicate wings, swirling and spinning in a language all of their own. Each evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Lyla would slip away from her chores, venturing into the forest that bordered the vast kingdom of her clan.

One twilight, as the last rays of sunlight kissed the treetops, Lyla followed a shadow that seemed to beckon her deeper into the woods. It slinked between the trees, mischievous and playful, leading her to a clearing she had never seen before. In its center stood an ancient oak, its gnarled branches twisting upward as if reaching for the stars. As Lyla approached, she noticed the shadows beneath the oak swirling more vibrantly than ever before. With a flutter of excitement, she knelt down, watching as the shadows began to take shape—mysterious creatures, ethereal beings with luminescent eyes and glimmering forms that danced gracefully just out of reach. They whispered secrets in a language she couldn't understand but felt in her bones.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows—as dark as the night. Its presence filled the clearing with an enchanting glow, and Lyla’s heart raced with awe and fear, it extended a hand toward Lyla and yanked her towards the swirling vortex of shadows. Lyla was full of fear and could not stop what was happening to her, she was dragged down in to the vortex. She shut her eyes tightly and when she finally felt a gentle breeze she opened them again finding herself in a new place, her head began to hurt and a dizzying sensation followed, her eyes fluttered shut and she fell into a sleep like state…… when she again awoke she could see a figure standing over her……….

When Lyla came to, through the mist and shade she could make out the vague shape of a dragon, vibrant red eyes piercing through her. Lyla was frozen, still shaken from being yanked into the shadows. Perhaps this eerie figure had pulled her in. The figure slowly came into focus, a deep midnight Ridgeback shrouded in fabrics and cobwebs. The dragon gestured with her gnarled wooden staff and Lyla followed without hesitation, her body almost moving on its own.

Lyla followed the Ridgeback through a dim and misty field of ruins. Cracking and creaking came with each of Lyla's steps, but the Ridgeback's steps were silent and elegant, weaving through the obstacles as though she were floating around them. Though still in somewhat of a daze, Lyla began to question who this dragon was, and more importantly where she was being taken.

As the two walked, the fog lifted and she stepped from cold earth to soft, sun-kissed grass. A small town lay just ahead on the cliffside, and Lyla's anxiety faded. It was hard to feel afraid when the sun hugged her body and the light made the ocean waves glimmer. Another Ridgeback appeared from the town, alongside a couple other locals. They gathered around Lyla, murmuring questions to one another.

"It looks like Krishna was right, look, Madhur found this little Snapper in the middle of the Hewn City."
"I still don't know how she can find her way there, you can't see three feet in front of yourself!"
"Some witch stuff I guess."
"She doesn't look like some kind of shade-dragon..."
"I don't think Krishna meant the Shade, he meant like...a shadow-dragon?"
"That still doesn't make sense. I can see her."
"Yeah, you can see a shadow too can't you, genius?"

"Please, give her some space." A voice came from behind the crowd. The swarm parted to reveal a large Guardian draped in a weathered flaxen shroud, her face obscured by a haunting mask. "I am Aabha. The dragon who brought you here is Madhur. Her husband foretold your arrival."

Lyla couldn't find her words. "We don't mean to overwhelm you. Come, rest in our lair and refresh yourself," Aabha said. The Guardian lead Lyla to a cozy shallow cave, a procession of curious dragons following. Lyla was told of the vision of the seer Krishna...an enchanted dragon cast in shade would emerge from the depths of the Hewn City at the dusk of the New Moon. Though Krishna could foresee Lyla's arrival, nobody knew what it meant.

Lyla finally felt at ease enough to describe what she could recall happening just the night before. "You may stay here if you wish. But a dragon whose essence is of the Shadows may feel their magic begin to fade if they remain for too long," Aabha cautioned Lyla, "it may be in your best interest to seek answers elsewhere."
