Biography
She sometimes wishes she wasn't Plague, and wears the hood so that strangers don't react badly. It's very hard to be thought of as a gentle healer when everyone sees your bright red eyes and instantly assumes you're a crazed lunatic.
That said, if she wasn't Plague, Shimmer wouldn't have the incredible understanding of disease, anatomy and sickness as she does. Of all the healers in the clan, she is the best at what she does, and there is very little that she cannot treat. Oh, yes, Petal is an excellent shaman and very skilled in healing wounds, but Shimmer understands the heart of disease and infection. Petal may spot that something is wrong, and has the ability to heal it, but Shimmer will pinpoint what it was, where it went wrong, and how Petal should treat it. Their talents combined, they are a formidable force against injury and sickness.
Her real anger, when she acknowledges it, is not that she was born Plague. It's that others won't see beyond it. Plague is not about blind, foolhardy berserker rage. It's not about death and suffering. It's not about cruelty and apathy. Plague is truly a doctrine that calls for the survival of the fittest; the need to persevere and thrive through the worst that life can throw at a dragon. In her eyes, by ensuring that her clan remains strong and adaptable, she is fulfilling the tenets of the Plaguebringer as much as any fool Mirror throwing himself at whatever foe he can find. She takes every single sickness in the clan as a personal affront, and will be at the sick dragon's bedside until they are back on their feet or the last breath leaves their body.
In her heart she truly is Plague, though her head may not want to be.
