Friduwulf Mate

CHANGED SEC FROM EYE SPOT TO SHIMMER

1pts94.png

Narrowly escaping destruction from a takeover attempt of his last lair, Ruari has learned to alter his sights when it comes to his ambitions. He knows better now: reserving his strength and gathering strength in less bloody and dangerous ways. His visions of the Plaguelands overrun with his beautiful corruption still simmer, but for now he waits...

Rurari is the first of the Vectors, a Plague subspecies. Their beauty contrasts with the diseases they carry and the twisted minds beneath their lovely exterior.
The true nature of the disease may vary, but the cult-like beliefs and rituals remain very much the same amongst these fanatics. Submitting to unnatural experimentation to obtain his barbed skin and wicked spines, the original founder of the Needles sought to become an ideal carrier of blood born contagions.
Most Vector seek to live long enough to breed and infect as much as possible. They tend to beleive their own illness is superior to others, though some may attempt to carry multiple plagues at once, or cycle between weaker viruses as their immune systems fight off each new infection. Regardless of their particular virus, the skin of any Vector tends to be hardened and covered in fine, sharp scales like shark skin. A mere brush over any part of them can create a mass of scratches ideal for sharing their chosen contamination. For those who don't infect easily, their wicked claws and spines are at the ready, oozing filthy fluids. Breeds with feathers or fins may find their plumage becoming hollow, constantly seeping, though more when attacked or fighting. It is suspected they have to perform some dark ritual to obtain these traits, but once one becomes a Vector, one is infectious for life, passing the genes onto their children, especially should they breed with another of their insidious cult.

These dragons are often very social, trying to get in contact with as many non-infected as possible. They are very beautiful and appealing to attract mates. All do their best to be charismatic, intelligent and coldly dedicated to do anything to further their cause, whether that means charming a rival lair's dragons into cozying up to their spiny selves, or outright skirmishes that result in many superficial wounds to both themselves and their victims!

These dragons are rarely alone. Many who were previous victims soon learn to appreciate the Vector lifestyle. As individuals they tend to be vain and selfish, as a group they are almost of one mind: do anything to infect! They tend to preserve themselves for the sake of effective infection, but in a dire situation, they will go down fighting fiercely without regard for pain or bodily damage. Those who do die are highly honored and long remembered by their clan, especially if their death resulted in creating more Vectors for the clan. Also revered among the Needlesticks are the fecund, as their diseases can be passed to their young. They are often leery of seriously pairing as lifemates with a non-Vector, unless the dragon seems to have the kind of personality that would thrive in their culture. Though their illnesses do not usually affect the brain, they all seem to have paranoid ideas about the world and delusions of grandeur that seem to come from some unknown madness.

As their numbers grow, each clan of Vectors has it's own dogma and range of personalities but all retain the sinister urge to spread and infect. They will do anything to keep their true intentions from victims to surprise them, though this ranges from being quiet neighbors to hiding in wait before attacking unfortunates that are smaller, weaker or outnumbered.

You can often identify them by appearance: striking, deep colors. Reds and purples for bloody, bruising diseases. Yellows for a liver destroying jaundice, pales for wasting diseases like TB! Jewel tones with occasional pastels are acceptable if they fit a particular viral or bacterial profile. Their skin distorts light with all the razor sharp edges or, in some cases, slick viscous ooze that drips from their bodies.
