Pyrite was found in the Auction House one day, at an extremely low price, claiming the chunks of gold-colored rock on his hide were pieces of pure gold. Now, most of the dragons in the clan found this suspicious - Why would anyone sell a dragon capable of generating gold in his scales for an exalt fodder price? However, Aries told them that they shouldn't disbelieve others so readily and urged the clan to give the gold-flecked dragon a chance.
...but, of course, the chunks of gold on Pyrite's hide weren't gold. They were pyrite - better known throughout the worlds as Fool's Gold. "But we knew it wasn't real gold," Golden is quick to point out. "So we're not fools." Indeed. And Pyrite is no fool, either. He's a living, breathing lie detector. Like the old saying goes, you can't con a conman - and it's never been truer than in Pyrite's case.
Still, Pyrite's antics got him adopted into the clan, simply based on the sheer audacity of his claims and his high-spirited nature. Once in the clan, Pyrite was invited to join the Mineral Union - a sub-clan that welcomed all rock, mineral, crystal and metal based dragons. He assumed they were inviting him because of his claims to be gold, so imagine his surprise when they revealed they knew exactly what he was made of - and wanted him, anyway!
In fact, when the Mineral Union split into two sub-groups, Pyrite found himself welcome in both of them! The Pyrite in his hide is considered both a healing 'crystal' as well as a formation of Iron Sulfide, meaning he can belong to both the Crystal Forge and Metal Mutiny sub-clans. "Twice the clubs is twice the work," Pyrite always says... so he tries to attend as few meetings as possible so no one asks him to do anything.
Due to his Shadowy nature and his tendency to "borrow" things from anyone and everyone, Pyrite was naturally drawn to scheming and dealing in the Auction House. He's fond of deals and loves to hunt around for the lowest prices around. He keeps looking for the "Borrow" button on all of the items, but he can't seem to find one. "Must be an oversight," he insists.
He also is the dragon in charge of selling the loot acquired by the clan in the Coliseum and through Gathering. A natural salesman, he could probably convince anydragon to buy dragon repellent, if he wanted to. "Heeey, that's a good idea..." No, Pyrite. No, it isn't.
