Copper Gear THE Learned Gump, as he's known in the libraries and lecture-halls of the Spire, is perhaps Spire Cliff's smallest scholar. Rescued by Zair from the smoking flinders of a clan in the Emperor's Wake, the studious little bookwyrm has been made welcome by even the Spire's fustiest antiquarians; these often set aside their treatises to beg the advice of Most Knowledgeable Gump, Eminent Gump, Gump the Luminous, et cetera (and to keep him well-supplied with company, cups of grape juice, and gentle corrections to his arithmetic).
