Vivian
The Witch-Doctor

If you're lucky, the entry area is the most you'll ever see of Vivian's personal quarters. Bone charms and dreamcatchers rattle where they hang from the rim of the tunnel mouth, and the choking scent of incense pours from deeper within, a copious amount of dried herbs and other perfumes burning whenever she has a patient in need of care. Though none of the dragons save perhaps Kyra and Ringo have ever worked up the courage to ask just why Vivian abandoned her ancestral home in the Scarred Wastelands, a thoughtful dragon could probably infer a lot from her panicky compulsion to seek fresh air and ward off the scent of decay. For the most part, she didn't receive many visitors, although winter always brought dragons like Darrow to her door due to the chill and damp.

"All right, cough for me?" Her voice rasped as she laid her head flat against his chest, listening carefully to his breathing for a few moments. "...feh, just a cold." She almost sounded irritated, or perhaps disappointed at the trivial nature of the issue, vanishing into the depths of her home for a moment before returning with a small vial of bitter-smelling liquid. A bit of medicine and a lot of rest would take care of things - she hardly even needed to be involved. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow would be a little more interesting...

Get Down With The Sickness

Among the Ferndale dragons, Vivian is perhaps the most visibly out-of-place. The only Plague Dragon among them, she was born with partially-withered wings that are totally incapable of sustained flight. On top of that, her personality is abrasive enough that you could be mistaken for thinking she's only tolerated due to the vital importance of her work as a healer. Talk to the other dragons, though, and even if a few of them will admit to being genuinely afraid of her, they will gush about her amazing skill as a healer and how intelligent and hard-working she must be to accumulate all that knowledge. That being said, she is a firm believer in survival of the fittest, like the rest of her Flight, although that credo manifests through a particularly twisted form of logic, even for Plague-kind.

Killing is trivial, but if only the fittest survive, then surely it is the most superior of all who can save others from death... right...?

Her clanmates first caught a glimpse of this behavior from the normally-reticent Ridgeback when a younger Cherish over-estimated her own abilities and had an arm nearly torn off at the shoulder by a massive boar. To their shock, Vivian began to cackle with delight as she stabilized the nearly-dead dragoness, leaping about while she bandaged the arm and gently re-connected the torn muscle fibers. True, the injury eventually healed almost flawlessly save for a shiny streak of scar-skin the size of a dinner plate, but afterwards Vivian aggressively demanded Cherish acknowledge her and thank her for saving her life. Ringo and Kyra defused things, but none of the other dragons really looked at her the same since.

She didn't particularly mind, though. She had done her job well, and that was what mattered. She took care of the other boars, too, and none of the other dragons even noticed. All it took was a judicious application of poison and even an amateur battler like her could handle things. They were buried as quickly as they were killed, too, because she was good at tunneling, putting them deep in the earth where their decay wouldn't be an issue. Clean and healthy, yes. No rotten flesh or bad smells within the soil. The Ferndale Clan was safe from harm and she proved herself to be better, all without letting anyone know...

Vivian did her job very well indeed.

QUICK FACTS

Personality: Though normally quiet and businesslike, at times Vivian's personality seems to reveal a darker side and savior complex, accompanied by harsh and slightly-unhinged laughter that unsettles all but the most understanding of her fellow denmates. Particularly dangerous illnesses or injuries are sure to bring this out, as she is a little too enthusiastic about being seen as being singlehandedly responsible for saving a dragon from mortal peril. But even with her... quirks... she's not evil, and she has carved out her own niche in the clan, however uncomfortable at times it can be.

Likes: Wind chimes, incense, clean linen

Dislikes: Sashimi ("Do you KNOW what parasites are in raw fish...?"), unpleasant smells, dirty clothes (she changes her bandages out daily, although they get stained astonishingly fast)

Favored Dragons: She doesn't exactly play favorites, but Cajah has earned slight respect since her alchemy can produce interesting and helpful potions. Cherish also ends up in her care quite often due to minor battle wounds.

Favorite Food: Seafood soups, broths, bisques... and dried fish.

Hobbies: ?????

Hoards:
Touch her medicine cabinet and you WILL regret it.
