Two coatls are guarding a chamber of the cave. One refused to speak to you, the other has the courtesy to tell you they're guarding the clan's hoard.

Sphene and Pyrope guard the hoard by day while the night guards sleep. The only ones allowed to pass are Amethyst and Topaz.
The two coatls were mates long before they joined the sanctuary and they were picked up by Poudretteite when they were young dragons and Pyrope was suffering from a serious illness he caught out in the icefield, unble to handle the cold. The healers patched him up and the young coatls came to Amethyst to ask her to give them work, so as to return a fraction of the favor they'd recieved. Amethyst gave them the task of gurding the hoard and that's what they've been doing ever since.
Pyrope has been known to be stubborn and rude at times, rather antisocial overall. He still thinks he'd rather be without a clan again, he dreams of being outside and free together with his mate again, and he knows that Amethyst would worry, but she would never pressure him to stay. And yet he stays, mostly out of limitless admiration and loyalty for Amethyst. Without the structure she built, drawing healers and gardeners to this place, he would have died and perhaps the only desire he has that is greater than his desire to leave is his desire to stay and give the sanctuary all he has.
