The grand library of the College of the Seemly Court belongs to Stheno. She is the head librarian—the pagemaster, the tomekeeper, the minister of scrolls and sacred texts. Although the books, records, and other treasures in the library are not technically owned by her—they are property of the university—everyone knows that nothing happens in or around the library without her permission. She is thoroughly irreplaceable and she knows it.

Stheno is a skilled translator in her own right, and often works with Kaio to make new versions of valuable texts. Despite her position as uncontested queen of her library and all in it, the stories and text pieces that Stheno finds most fascinating are the wild and uncontainable ones, the ones that change too fast to capture: apocrypha, myths, hieroglyphs written in sand, folklore. Others joke that if Stheno could put a campfire ghost story in a jar she would. They are not far from the truth.
