Biography

Saeoh [새오]
[se-yo]

Named after the character in the Korean drama The Legend.
Could there be any more fitting name
for a guardian female dragon from the region of Fire?

Saeoh was the queen of the Bear Tribe
who became the mortal wife of Hwanung, the creator god.
The god made her the guardian of the Phoenix artifact,
the power to control fire,
which he had taken from Kajin, the queen of the Tiger Tribe.
But Kajin, who was in love with him,
resented this, and tried to force Saeoh to give up the artifact
by threatening to harm Saeoh and Hwanung's baby.
Saeoh thought her child had been killed,
and her rage and despair caused the artifact to go out of control
and release the Black Phoenix,
which had the power to destroy the world.

Toadstool from the Mushroom Project visited Saeoh and Hwanneong on 11/13/2013!

(Laya's Lair, on the edge of the Molten Scar, 11/15/2013)

The tiny fae peered up uncertainly at the huge lemon-colored tundra towering over her. Hwanneong peered down at their unexpected guest, then lowered his head and sniffed at her, then inspected her again. The fae decided some self-assertion was needed, opened her mouth, and screamed at him. Hwanneong rumbled.

"Oh, shush, Hwannie, you're scaring our little guest," a no-nonsense voice said. The fae looked around for the source and found nothing... until she realized that what she had taken for a giant orange boulder looming behind the tundra was really a gigantic fire-colored guardian who now curved her neck around the tundra to inspect the fae for herself.

"Heh," Hwanneong answered, emitting more rumbles. "I don't think she's easily scared, Saeoh." He reached down one large furry claw. "Come, little one. Why don't I take you to meet the other dragons in this lair?"

Saeoh peered at the lemon-colored fae perched on her mate's claw, then at him. The fae screamed at her, too.

"Are you sure this is not a daughter you haven't told me about, Hwannie?" she rumbled teasingly. "No matter, she'll fit right in. Why don't you take her inside, and I'll have some snacks ready."

Hwanneong rumbled again in what the little fae had come to realize was his way of chuckling. It seemed to echo endlessly in the cavern behind them.

"I think snacktime cannot be too soon," he said. "Here comes the horde!"

And a large pile of hatchlings and adolescent dragons of almost all species and colors came rushing almost in a tumble out of the lair. Hwanneong sighed, braced himself, and held the little fae above his head to keep her from being accidentally crushed in the dragon avalanche. Some of the littlest hatchlings were already climbing all over Saeoh. All of them were squealing, yelling, and screaming at the same time.

"Omoni! Aboji!" "Apa! Oma!" "Just wait till I catch you, you...!!!" "You can't catch meeeee!!!" "Is there food? I'm hungry?" "Omaaaa! Chosun stole my toy!" "Apa! Apa! Look at this necklace I made!" "Apa, who is that? Is she new?" "Did the new eggs hatch already, Omoni?" "Can she come down and play, Aboji?" "Play! Play! Play! Play!" "Fooood! I want food!" "Play! Play! Play! Play!"

The little fae looked down from her perch and screamed back at all of them. No, the scream didn't sound out of place at all.

(Korean Vocabulary: Omoni/Eomoni - mother; Aboji/Abeoji - father; Oma/Eomma - mommy; Apa/Appa - daddy)
