Subspecies - Opal Sculpture

The boneyard, where nothing wants to go near, emits an unacceptable stench and occasional green smoke from the slimy puddles, but it's definitely the best place to hide from your pursuers.

They had no choice. Sacrificing dignity and physical comfort in order to survive, enduring the heat and humidity of burrowing into the scales, trying to ignore the anonymous skeleton lying next to them, it was the only way they could avoid the same fate.

They endure, they wait, they convince themselves that it's just a test, they turn into a little clay pot and bury themselves deep in the rotting mire, almost losing all sense of time, that maybe it will be never-ending.

Mire Crystals

They almost missed the call from Eros, the slimy mire wasn't the best medium for transmitting sound waves, but thankfully even after countless centuries of waiting, Laspi was still alert, and he barely caught the slightest tremor of the chant. But that was enough.

They wriggled their rusty, tense bodies out of the mire, looked back to see that the hole was deeper than when they'd buried themselves in.

It was a long overdue stretch, and they flapped their wings, lifted their heads, and roared with all their might in response to Eros. Laspi ready to return intuitively to their leader, but he find that his wings had crystallized before they took off.

Compared to his partner's slate-textured wings, his wings, although still bearing a similar appearance, looked overall like semi-transparent crystals, shimmering with luster. It seems they have stayed in this eerie boneyard for too long. Who knew that a dragon's wings could be affected by chemicals?
