Biography
Uh-oh, looks like this sassy Gaoler wandered a little too far from her home lair, and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful! Retired traveler. Done! :) -Festivoog |
Former traveling companion |
Vaz was the bossy sort of hatchling, not taking kindly to having her demands not being listened to.
So, when she'd almost tripped up a Skydancer preparing to venture out into the world and leave the clan behind, she was quick to order her to bring her a long for the journey. "You're bringing me around Sornieth for almost trampling me! No other option!" When the Skydancer, who later introduced herself as Dirtclaw tried to protest or otherwise console the dragonet with food, she'd screech her head off. It was becoming a problem; they could both be spotted by someone who worked for the acting leader, Fearmaw, and be violently persecuted for even thinking about leaving.
Eventually, Dirtclaw had to yield and bring Vaz along with her.
Vaz had the enthusiasm for travel (she wanted to see the sights! Go shopping! Do tourist things! Stop being boring, Dirtclaw!) but not the chops or the skills. Dirtclaw had to get to an expedition in the Arcane flight but Vaz's flying skills were too poor to make the trip. The two of them took a ship instead: a longer trip, but much less strenuous. Or so Vaz thought until Dirtclaw told her that she'd be working for the ship's cook during the voyage.
Working in the galley was hard, and the cook didn't go easy on her just because she was small. Vaz was appalled. She was put to work washing and putting away dishes. Without breaking them in protest. After Vaz could be trusted with dishes the cook had her washing ingredients, and prepping them, and eventually Vaz was trusted with a knife for chopping things and a little fire for cooking. Vaz was almost too busy to complain. Almost. She complained to Dirtclaw every night before they went to sleep. It was hard work!
When they finally got to the Arcane flight Dirtclaw started on her next expedition. To her surprise, Vaz found that her time working in the galley made her a little stronger and she was better able to keep up. She was no archaeologist, though. Too dirty and crumbly. Blegh, she'd rather stay out of it! While Dirtclaw had her fun studying the old broken things from a crumbling sanctum, Vaz ran the campsite. She couldn't cook anything fancy, but she could make a little fire and turn their travel rations into something a little more palatable. And washing the dishes for two dragons was a welcome break from washing the dishes for an entire ship! Vaz found that managing a campsite was kind of fun. She decided where the tent would go, what meals they ate, how things should be packed up...she could get used to this management stuff. Huh, archaeology trips weren't so bad! Mostly.
Vaz was happiest when Dirtclaw finished her archaeology and the two of them went back to civilization. And Dirtclaw told her that she could pick some touristy things to do before their next expedition! Vaz loved the sound of that. She'd make sure she picked something that would be fun for the both of them, and not just fun for herself. Despite their rocky start, Vaz liked traveling with Dirtclaw and was excited to see where they'd end up next.
Vaz and Dirtclaw ended up in their home clan after awhile, and saw that it was different. Vaz didn't really care about all that though. She was just happy to see her parents again, even if they were hibernating! However, Dirtclaw seemed to want to move on, even if it met leaving her behind. After a regretful goodbye, Vaz and Dirtclaw parted ways. Vaz wasn't sure when she'd even see the Skydancer again, if at all. She was so consumed by sorrow that she opted to go into hibernation alongside her parents, only awakening when they might as well.
