Friendly Undertaker

B I O G R A P H Y

When Shiloh took up the office of undertaker, there wasn't much need for one in the clan. It was small and very few died, and those that did were usually cared for by the family. Despite the concerns of the clan that she would never have work, Shiloh persisted, educating herself on grief counseling, the care of bodies and the funeral rites of the many flights and sects of Sornieth. Her skills came in need when the son of the then-leader Lady Elomuria, George, lay dying of illness. She attended to him however he needed, but found herself falling for the dying Fae and wishing that he would recover.

Shiloh got her wish and George was saved thanks to a risky procedure performed by the clan's healer Cypress, but though he was now well she had no reason to see him anymore, and he was kept away from her by his brother. She was happy enough with this and went about her daily life, getting into the habit of nosing around into nooks and crannies when not on the job. This was what led her to discovering Fred and George's secret laboratory and throwing her into George's life again. George was delighted at the development even as Fred screamed that it ruined everything, and began to court the clan coroner in earnest. They soon after became mates.

Regrettably, she was needed again some time later when the clan was attacked by Shade. She was the only coroner fit for duty, leaving her to care for all the dead of the tragedy nearly on her own. She was relieved that her colleague Lotus survived, but the sheer volume of dead left an impact on her and she's never quite been the same after that, though she is if anything even more devoted to her job.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

While her job is thought by most to be a grim and morbid task, Shiloh has a very upbeat attitude and an optimistic outlook on life. She has a bit of gallows humor that comes with the job, but while she attends to her duties with diligence and respect for the deceased and their families, she also rejects the idea that she should be eternally mopey and morose. She's a very playful dragoness, and can often be found wrapped around her father-in-law Joram's neck like a scarf if her mate is too busy to cuddle with her for naptime.

Her rapport with her colleague Lotus seems one-sided from the outside, but the two have an understanding of one another that few others are knowledgeable of. While Lotus is a quiet and seemingly melancholy dragon, she is not put off by Shiloh's more energetic nature and quirky brand of humor. Shiloh in turn is far from bored by the calm, quiet Lotus and actually values her gentler energy to play off of and bring balance into the workplace. Those who do know that the two get along fairly well assume it's because the pair are plague, though that isn't the case either as the two have few plague friends outside of one another and don't seem to take element into account when meeting others. After all, no matter the eye color one has, everyone will need the undertaker's assistance when their life comes to an end.

Very little rattles Shiloh on the job, not gruesome injury or close friendships or even the death of young dragons. If she cannot keep it together for the departed, who will? Still, the idea of attending to her mate still keeps her awake at times and the aftermath of the invasion was overwhelming for all involved, especially the lone undertaker able to work on the dead of that event. Despite this she is determined never to waver in her duties, and encourages others not to fear death and even to make their plans long in advance. This "death positive" attitude puts off many, but some have thanked her for making the idea of death no longer a fearful one.
