Flare

The last thing Flare ever saw was the face of his Lady. He knew the dangers, she is the sun and he just a simple dragon. She’s burned him before. The sheer heat coming off her skin near deadly. Hadn’t meant to, the look of horror in her liquid sunshine eyes will haunt him forever. He lies on his back, staring into those eyes. They say never look into the sun. He says;

“Pretty little Sunshine, grace me with a kiss?”

He doesn’t think he’d wake up again. But he does. In blackness but soft hands holding his. She nurses him back to life. Gentle. Gentle. He loves her. She loves him. He keeps her safe. Ends all that dare try to extinguish his sun.

“Sunshine,” he croons out.

Hands reaching. She reaches back.

Worlds would burn before he let anything happen to her.

“My golden sun.”
