Jack cracked an eye open in the pale morning light. A slight draft blew through the lair from outside. It smelled clear and crisp. Jack smiled to himself. He knew that smell well. He gingerly extracted himself from the sleeping pile of fur. It always amused him that tundras in their winter coats were used as blankets for some of the other clan members, despite them having plenty of furs from their coli brawls.
He grabbed his hat and quietly crept to the edge of the lair. The tops of the snow covered trees glistened in the dawn light, it was just beginning to tinge them with gold. He stepped gingerly out into the fresh blanket, listening to the snow crunch under his feet. He grinned and took off, loping through the snow in great bounds, getting so excited that he was practically gliding between strides. He rolled through a drift, exploding into the air in a whirlwind of snow and fur. He heard a small chuckle behind him and turned to see a small fey sitting in the doorway to the lair.
"Mornin' Shard," Jack smiled. The tiny fey flew over to the snow covered tundra and landed gracefully in the fresh powder. He sunk with a small, muffled "oof."
Jack laughed and lowered his head, poking his horn into the fey sized hole. Shard grabbed it and once free of the snow pile flew over and landed on Jack's hat. "Thanks," he muttered, a little embarrassed.
Jack threw some snow into the air and ran around under it as it fell. Shard caught some and threw it at Jack's nose.
AHHCHHOOO!!!
Shard went flying off into a snow bank. Jack grimaced and ran over to the tiny depression in the snow bank. "Shard? Uh... You ok?" The ice colored fey blended in very well.
A tiny voice, muffled by the snow, answered. "That. Was. AWESOME!"
Jack laughed and retrieved the fey with his horn again, this time whipping his head back toward a deep drift. The fey let go and tucked into a ball, flying through the air to land with a large plop in the drift, laughing maniacally the whole way.
Jack retrieved him and threw him again. This is how the clan found them when they woke up, playing "Launch" in the snow.
Jack asked Snow Beast if he'd throw him. After a few disdainful looks from his mate, the great imperial whispered into Jack's ear, "Lift off after breakfast," and winked.
