SPECIES NOTES COATL, SPADE WOLF
These Coatls are known for their absolutely gorgeous coloration - and the attitude that comes with knowing they’re something majestic to behold. They are elegant, can be quite standoffish and are notorious for being so incredibly picky, that keeps in facilities have a really difficult time satisfying their taste for luxurious food. No McDonald’s for these fellas, they want to go straight to Olive Garden. They do not like to be controlled, contained, or in captivity unless it clearly benefits them. Most Spade Wolves will never return to the wild if they find someone who will slave over them to a caliber they find acceptable. They cannot speak unlike some other breeds of Coatl, but by God you know it if they’re not exactly impressed with you. They can be incredibly jealous and will often times sabotage other dragons to get something they want.
While their attitudes can be insufferable at times, these dragons carry an amazing gift. It is near impossible to convince a Spade Wolf to present it to another creature - especially not a human being - but on rare occasion they have been reported to do so. These dragons carry with them the ability to give someone a second chance at life. They can only do it once and often never give it to anyone else, as they can use it on themselves should they perish. Once they do so, the creature is bonded with the Coatl for the rest of their lives: which will be quite a long time, as their gift grants immortality.
Several decades ago these dragons were pushed to the brink of extinction. It’s rumored that they were once selfless and humble beings, but the actions of the human race in the name of greed have left the entire breed wary and untrusting of others. One of the most infamous Spade Wolves was bonded with a little boy she saved from a river. The man went on to be one of the leading figures in the efforts to preserve the species and successfully change their states from endangered, to common. In 2012, just a few years before the doctors’ death, he succeeded. His wife claims that over one-hundred dragons showed up the morning of his passing to their home. She reported to the media that while her husband had moved on from his human life, he is now in the sky where he belongs beside them. His wife has stated with a tearful smile that he transformed right before her eyes into a Spade Wolf himself - and he had never looked more perfect than in that moment.
PATIENT NOTES
Caramel, as his name suggests, has one heck of a sweet-tooth. As is the very nature of these creatures, only the best gourmet treats will do. He is stubborn, bullheaded, and can be found preening his gorgeous feathers when grooming should be his last priority. He is not at all afraid to be picky - and you best not let him go hungry, either, for he'll sneak into your pantry at 3 AM and eat an entire box of cheez-its on his own. As much as he likes to pretend he's the king of all, this boy actually has been through terrors you couldn't imagine. He deserves to be spoiled: and when he's not being fussy... his addiction to affection is so very clear. Caramel just wants a friend who doesn't want to keep him for his gifts. They are the very first Spade Wolf to have ever come in our care. Now that we've successfully sent this beautiful Coatl to their forever home, perhaps we've proven ourselves worthy adversaries to the breed! To healing futures we move onward.
