PERSONALITY

Khatar always tries to get his own emotions on check, though he might fail at times. He presents himself as a fierce dragon who is capable of anything if someone dares to threat what he believes or what he cares, even if it comes as cruelty. The purpose always justifies the method and he knows sometimes hard decisions are to be made.

His serious self might make others uncomfortable in his presence, sometimes even his own lairmates, as he will make his point through even abrasively having a hard time considering other dragons' feelings.

This is, at the end, the mask he crafted for himself. Khatar is even more afraid of having his loved ones physically hurt than of the water and he thinks every sign of weakness might prove itself fatal to his dearest. The only exception to the rule are hatchlings, with whom he has a deep soft spot.

ABOUT

Khatar is member of the council, especialized in the defense of Hylalyt. Being one of the biggest members of the lair, he took in his claws the protection of everyone even before jumping onto the council, as he was part of the defense brigade since the very beginning.

He has shown to be a reliable member and even willing to put his own life in the stakes if there should be the need. More than his threathening physical appereance and personality, it's just that what has granted him the respect of his clanmates.

Trained since his hatchling days to be a warrior, before Hylalyt he was part of a big legion centered in the Carrion Canyon undergrounds. Khatar never had the need to worry about other things than doing his thing and battleing when others tried to take their territory, but he spent great time in the hatcheries overseeing the nests and socializing hatchlings.

That ended up changing very soon. Cormac, one of his best friends and also a warrior ridgeback companion, was doing his business at expenses of the legion. With ulterior motives he lead a great part of the warriors to a non-existent battle, all while back in home other enemy dragons were to steal all treasure and valuables taking advantage of their position.

A bad feeling inconvinienced Khatar inside him, without being able to tell what was it about. He just know he needed to get back and that he did. The allies of Cormac were not respecting their agreement, hurting and destroying the caves their legion spent so much time digging, and he arrived on time to avoid the total destruction, but not enough to stop the hurt and disaster that were instaurated.

What happened inside those caves is mostly a mistery, as Khatar and the remaining warrios refused to say a single word about that, but none of the enemies got out the caves. Cormac, whose implication on the events was discovered, was exiled from the legion.

And Khatar? The guilt ate him inside out. None of his mates ever though less of him nor blamed him, but he felt he should have known. Maybe if not blind by his friendship, he might have been able to do more and sooner. He felt just as responsible as Cormac by allowing himself to get in his head the heat of a possible battle and not thinking on the wellbeing of the legion as a whole.

He condemned himself to exile as well.

It was not easy, and he had to resort to steal food from others. Food was never a concern before, but by his own means was harder than he expected. Definitely one of the worst parts of surviving by himself.

One good day, he found and egg. A lightning egg, all by itself. He watched the egg and kept it warm awaiting for their progenitors, but none came back for it. Not even in a proper nest, he was left to wonder how it got there and where were its parents. Taking care of an egg by his own means, while trying to keep himself alive, was not the task he was willing to sign up to.

So after days he took the egg and flew. He came across a good but small sort of village where a bunch of different breeds of dragons lived, and he tried to leave there the egg. The group was happy to take care of it, but a joyful tiny spiral dragon was persistent on convincing him to stay, if not for himself to help them protect the egg until it was born, were Alarick words.

Khatar decided to stay just until it hatched. He took more seriously than ever his job as a protector and warrior, joining the then council of protection Kovar in his scouts and battles. Needless to say, they didn't got along in the beginning; Khatar's aggresive attitude didn't mixed well with the balanced personality of Kovar. No matter how many days and nights they spent together, it took much more than that to pave their way.

When flying around and checking everything was alright, when they happened to overflew a flock of talonok and corven located in the Windswept Plateau, too close to their liking. They took the task of shooting down Kovar, the smallest of the pair. The fight was hard forcing the dragons to retreat, but the beastclan achieved the objective.

With his left wing hurt, Kovar plummeted in direction to the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Khatar, unable to think straight, worried to the bone for his not-so-close mate, pressed his wings against his body to adquire a vertiginous speed and took Kovar.

Both splashed a huge wave. Most of the impact took a toll on Khatar's body, but not worse than his muscles clenching at the feel of the liquid around him. Even then, he composed himself enough to fly again and seek shelter nearby, far from the beastclan.

An unspoken agreement was made that day and a friendship was born. Kovar never told a soul about the panic attack Khatar suffered, nor Khatar said anything about the event. When they got back to Hylalyt, Kovar resigned as council of protection to let Khatar take over.

When finally the egg hatched, it revealed itself as a little sandsurge. The group insisted Khatar to be the one to grant her name, and it was the day Ekaitza was born. The sandsurge, not happy with the arrangement made before her hatchday clunch onto the ridgeback to never let go, soon making herself her way to be her protegee and apprentice.

Not having the heart to leave her behind, there was no other choice for Khatar than staying in Hylalyt at her side and with the mates he made in his time there.
