His first memories - dark, cold nights - endless, it seemed. The wind howled with hunger, the air bit with sharpened fangs, the very shadows chased good souls to their doom. But within his memories of the screaming whirlwind of the late winter into which he had been born, there was always a light.

The light he was named for;
the light carried in the natural element of his breed;
the light lit by his ancestors so long ago he could not count their relation;
the light kept aflame by his mother, and her mother before her, and so on;
the light whose grace was bestowed on him at a tender age, before he ever thought to turn and face the angry winds himself.

And it was under the flickering of this lit candle that Kandel was taught the history of his kind, their shame as their deity deigned to look at them again, their banishment to the Southern Icefield. Where the Icewarden took them in as trophies for his collection, where the frigid nights hid even the darkest of sins. But beneath all that, there was the light - and Kandel learned he could fight for the good of dragonkind, even against the downfall of his breed.

For his birth Clan was an order of mysterious warriors, guardians of the Icefield's flame, and he was to join their ranks. Fierce and loyal, Kandel was trained as a warrior, and when deemed ready, he set out to the wider planes of Sorneith, searching for a Clan to call home.
