Dapper has always been a bit concerned with his appearance. He actually began life as a Guardian, but he was always self-conscious as a hatchling because he thought his coloring made him look ugly. He also felt insignificant in a lair populated almost entirely by other Guardians. Dapper was never very interested in finding his charge and protecting it. He knew there was something different inside him, some beautiful thing that he longed to set free to dance and sing, but he couldn't help but feel somewhat trapped inside his own body.

One day, Dapper was playing around in the Scrying Workshop, entertaining all of his "What Ifs." He saw what he would look like if he were a Skydancer like his father, and he immediately fell in love with the way his potential charcoal body shone with the light of his possible stonewash feathers. A bit fearfully, he told his parents that he wanted to change. They were surprised, and at first they were a bit sad that Dapper was uncomfortable in his own body, but then they agreed to help him buy a gene scroll. They were and still are very supportive of his decision.

Dapper could not be happier. He had never dreamed how wonderful it would feel to have so many fluffy feathers, and he absolutely loves having such a long, poofy-ended tail. Because he is so proud of the way he looks now, he preens perhaps a bit too frequently and always tries to stay clean and professional.

Because his self-confidence has increased by leaps and bounds, Dapper always loves to be a welcoming host for visitors to the lair. He has organized a tour of the Reedcleft Ascent for visitors, and he has also put together a quartet of singing dragons. Dapper entertains during the day while his sisters Illuminations and Wishes entertain during the night. They are starting to gain quite a following among dragons from all flights.
