BRIZA
The Seamstress
precise | optimistic | eldritch
tumblr_o1zrsv44JN1ufdm5xo1_400.png

Briza was recruited from a clan of renowned tailors and apparel designers. The clan paid handsomely for her, and she still can't believe her good fortune. It's not that she was ever cold, or hungry, or unsafe in her home clan - in fact, you could tell time (and she often did) by the arrival of meals, and if anyone was at risk of death, it was from boredom. But a family name isn't built with idle hands (at least that's what her grandfather always said, bent so far over his patterns she thought that one day he wouldn't be able to straighten back up...), so, except when she was at school, she was expected to be working. All day and night the cavernous lair was filled with a cacophony of chatter and clatter of various machinery that sped up the process of making finished garments from bolts of cloth. Sewing, cutting patterns, affixing buttons, ironing the final products... she could do it all before she was full grown. Amazingly, she didn't grow to hate it - in fact, the opposite - only by losing herself in the work and committing to excellence could she justify her life and avoid falling into a deep depression.

But there is more to life than work and sleep. At least that is what has always hoped, and what she has found in her new clan. Not that she is allowed to shirk work - Stormcatcher's motto is, of course, 'Get Back to Work'! but somehow despite that Briza has time now to discover what ELSE she likes to do besides sew.

“I was born to make something beautiful.
Something worth far more than I."

--Nawal, The Wandering Inn

Briza is a genus of grasses. The common name for the group is the 'quaking grasses' as the flowers quiver in the slightest breeze. In Scottish folklore they are a type of fairy grass. A patch marks where fairies were recently dancing. The cursed location is deadly to any unwary passerby that stumbled across it, as they will become drowsy to the point of death.
