Eliza

Eliza was the boldest of her siblings. She loved the sea, loved wandering the shallows around the old port with her mother as they searched for fish.

The first time her father brought her along on one of the ships, she knew she'd found her calling. The wail of wind over water and rock of the boat like a cradle scratched a nagging itch in the back of her mind.

She ventured off on her own before she was even fully grown. She took a job on a whaling vessel like her mother before her--the spiny whales along the coast of redrock cove promised good money to dragons capable of besting them.

And, well, if one day she arrived back in port as captain, the previous one missing--who's to say what happened? Sailors are lost to the waves all the time. He was a poor captain anyway, led them too often into danger for little payoff.

But Eliza lacked one thing, just one--a charge. A purpose. Where her sisters found theirs young, Ceres with her shipwrecks and Tamerlane with her trinkets, Eliza never felt that pull to anything.

Not until she met a spiral in a port far from home, and everything just clicked.
