Biography
"How about a wager?"
|
In every clan, there are a few things every dragon knows about their clanmates. This one gets offended if you ever mention his mother, that one can't take a joke. Among the unnamed clan, there's a particularly emphatic piece of knowledge. Don't gamble with Gehanna. And yet, despite this sterling piece of advice, her friends and clanmates alike continue to do so. It's difficult to resist the playful glint in her eyes, her friendly teasing, and her laughing offer of “come on, just a little bet, I'll go easy on you!” She will not go easy on you. Many a dragon has lost their shirt, literally, and been left bewildered as to how it happened. They didn't bet with her, they just, sort of... agreed to put up their belongings as a stake and let the one who won the game take them... Gehanna is a born gambler, with natural luck that she shamelessly helps along with wit, charm, and more than occasional cheating. She's an expert at teasing and playfully pushing someone into making a bet they were reluctant to, into betting more than they meant, and into playing with her again because they'll definitely be able to win it back. Everything is an opportunity for a bet or a wager with her. One of her favorite strategies to lead someone on is to make a big win, gradually let them win some back with little losses, and wait until they get confident enough to make a big bet before taking it all. Gehanna hates nothing more than a fight, and usually picks her marks with a specific eye to someone who won't get angry enough to start breathing fire once she's won whatever it was she was looking for off them. She's fast, but she's not a fierce fighter, preferring to grab what she can and bolt if the situation turns ugly. It occasionally does, because not every dragon is blind to her tendency to cheat when luck doesn't go her way. Counting cards, loaded dice, sleight of hand, she's done them all and invented a few more methods. She even trained her familiar, a cursed bat, to spy on her opponents, and then perch somewhere and convey the necessary information to her in a silent code they invented. Despite her tendency to win all your valuables, Gehanna is known as a friendly and likable dragon. She has to be, to keep in people's good graces after she's won all those bets. She rarely lets them win anything back from her, as losing puts her in a mood. In fact, one of the few times she can be seen in a bad temper is during her tendency to drink when she loses. Asmodeus can often be blamed for such bouts of temper, given his love of gambling that almost rivals hers, and his equally exercised tendency to cheat to win. However, she's pretty likely to give back something she knows the former owner needs or misses. She's not as interested in having the prizes as she is in coaxing someone else into playing with her. For her, the thrill is in playing and winning, by whatever means necessary, and the stakes are a happy bonus. ~by Mirrorstone |
