Biography

Prehnite is a soft, translucent green mineral. It is named after Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, who was the first person to describe it in 1788. Prehnite is found in a variety of rocks, including granite, gabbro, and peridotite. It is often used as a gemstone.

Prehnite has a Mohs hardness of 6-6.5. This means that it can be scratched by knives and other hard materials. Prehnite is also relatively fragile and can break easily if not handled carefully.

Prehnite is most commonly found in green colors, but it can also be yellow, white, or gray. The green color is caused by the presence of iron in the mineral structure. Prehnite can also be brightly fluorescent under ultraviolet light.
