Biography

L I U R K

" the ocean does not choose who sails; the ocean simply allows one to come home "

Liurk is a oceanic Dusthide, once living in abandoned seaside caverns of northern Dragonshome. Unlike his brethren who took to living within the earth, Liurk was fascinated with the ocean and what treasures possibly lied beyond and within its depths. While his now unknown family dug deeper as the world continued on, he spent more and more time upon the surface world - away from Modern dragon eye - and studied the waves. He taught himself how to swim, to how weave, what animals live on the coast and how to harvest healthily from them. He learned the tides, the particular sounds differences the seasons brought to the ocean, the various types of foam and current. He remained isolated there, content with his antisocial living, for years on end.

The day the Dusthide civilization unveiled itself once more from the ancient caves below and welcomed by Modern dragons, Liurk decided the day had come he was to sail north. Tucked in his cove, he pulled out an impressive, handcrafted vessel, and set her out on her maiden voyage. Upon her deck was supplies, food, and recording materials - anything he thought he needed to survive a long trip to a potentially new land. With her mast set full and the winds favorable, he stepped claw off Sornieth, unsure if he would ever return.

Days later, he did, but not by his own choice. He discovered, when he sailed far off the known maps of his homeland, there was a boarder of storm and gale like none other to wreck the ocean. Walls of water and salt rose high into the air, fish swimming in it freely in the unknown magic, and storm clouds ravaged the tops. It was impossible for him to sail through. He tried. He failed. He sailed to the left and right, but by his calculations, that would have been in vain. He struck a hypothesis this boarder wrapped the entirety of Sornieth in a massive circle, a trip upon years that would take, and of which he had no where near enough supplies for. With a disappointed heart, he turned his sails back south.

The impossible magic perplexed him as he journeyed back, and he wrote extensively of his observations. He planned to return to his wall, but before he could put a final quill in ink and seal his last journal of math and star charts, the world sunk its quill in him.

A storm akin to the world wall formed above his vessel, lashing and bashing his small boat around. In minutes, boards were flung from the hull, the mast snapped, ropes frayed, and the entire ship capsized in a fury of waves. Liurk was cast to sea with only a plank to hold his heavy body. He battled the sea and from drowning, but as the storm continued, he only grew weaker. Liurk did not wish to give up so quickly, but he was exhausted. He was not a fighter, only an oceanographer. He figured that if he was to go out, at least he was surrounded by, albeit it horrific, face of what he come to love. He passed out as a wave bashed him under.

And awoke to someone poking him with a stick a week later. On dry land. In one whole piece.
