Her death was not immediate.
It started out warm, the tickling sensation creeping up slowly, first from her claws, reaching out to her legs, her stomach, the base of her wings. Then, it started to grow more intense. The heat tugging at her and dragging her down, slowing her down and making her stare down at the ground curiously.
Dried leaves littered it, but nothing out of the ordinary.
One more step into the cave...
The burning heat roared up, engulfing her wing tips and antennae and wrenching her around, slamming her to the ground with a painful scream. The cave didn't even allow her that. Her scream was torn from her mouth, lost in the whooshing that surrounded everything.
