presage, as all other obelisks of the time, was new to the world. a first generation statue-dragon unearthed during the monumental dustcarve dig, presage's innate name was less joyous or ambitious than her cohorts--a sense of foreboding, a shadow dogging her heels.

she shared this fear with master archeologian velya, one of the few dragons she had known at the time, who despite taking her seriously could do nothing to ease the obelisks' sense of doom. presage, over time, began to shrink in on herself. alienated from her peers, whose zeal and optimism seemed to lend well to finding clans to call their own, while presage remained unaligned. velya inducted her into the dragonhome preservation guild for a time, an intern under one of the bookkeepers, an attempt to integrate her into the world around them all and to the flight of the god that shaped her with this anxiety. and it worked, for a time--presage liked the work, the history, the tedium of it all and the genuine interest her colleagues all had in the subject.

until she met alecto.

alecto, a scoundrel, leader of a clandestine group of freelance diggers and raiders called the purveyors primordial. charming, handsome, encouraging. she, above all, saw the raw strength hidden beneath presage's small demeanor. alecto and presage encountered each other by chance on a dig, and chance became deliberate. notes left in out of the way alcoves, the preservation guild constantly frustrated by rogue thieves getting to sites before them, trysts and sleepness nights and a persistent guilt whenever presage had to file paperwork when she knew alecto was involved.

when presage left the guild, alecto welcomed her enthusiastically, and presage began joining them on delves. in the background hum of archeologian news, teams of historians and miners alike were going missing, and earthquakes grew more and more common.

under the stone, on only her third delve, the purveyors primordial encountered a huge, lumbering skeletal wyrm--and escaped only due to presage.

some kind of blessing, or magic long-held within her core, a halo of light burst around her head and the scales around her eyes erupted into crystal as the team stared in horror at the undead dragon. a bellow of refracted light from deep within presage, and the bones stilled into hard crystalline fossils.

and she brought them to velya.

when she uses her powers to petrify the zombies, the crystals around her eyes grow but so do the veins of shade within her.
