Sing, O Myrkr, of the night of your birth, of the horror you brought upon this world, not by choice, but by cruel chance.
Sing, and let us hear your song. 
As one of the moons passes over the sun, the world begins to fall into darkness. For the denizens of Sornieth, the eclipse is a spectacle to behold. Crowds of beings pour from their homes, raising their heads to the sky, gazing in awe at the celestial phenomenon above. It is in this darkness that the creatures emerge. Sinuous as shadows, they slip from the shores of Frigapolyon into the icy sea. Their father watches them leave. These two refused to listen to him. Despite his efforts to teach them the ways of dragonkind, they dismissed them all, making for the black waves as soon as they could swim. Nyallr does not blame them, though. Such eldritch beings will always struggle with the mortal mundane; one can only hope they choose to comply. Under the dark of the eclipse, a lone fisherman notices an odd commotion on the waves while he is out. When he guides his boat to the spot, he notices a massive school of fish swirling in a strange circle. It is a haul bigger than anything he has seen in his life. Sensing an opportunity, he casts his net out and pulls in the catch, his boat nearly tipping from the uncanny weight of the fish. He has made the catch of his life, he thinks, and he turns his boat around and sails home, just as the moon completely covers the sun. When the eclipse is over, the fisherman's family see no sign of him. But his boat is found bumping against their home's dock, having inexplicably returned on its own. When they look inside, all they find is an empty boat coated with black tar, the scent of rot pungent from the fish carcasses woven within. April 2024 Eclipse hatch |
