A beam of light slides over her face and the warmth is just enough to wake her. The unexpected sunrise tickles her eyelids and is just poking its head above the horizon, casting a reddish sheen around her body and on all of the woods behind her. Her toes are tickled with soft sand and the feelings of the ocean sinking into her skin. It carefully wraps around her silhouette with periodic splashes; stinging a few scratches on her arm. A quick glance around shows a clean beach with no other signs of activity or life. It is like a dream, as if everything that just happened was all in her head. Though, it was not, and she soon experiences the sensations of slowly sinking into watery sand, partially buried like a lost treasure. The royals have already left, long ago in the depths of the night. Pretending to be fancy like them can be utterly exhausting and comes with its price. The lively party on the beach, with fruity punch, beachballs, singing, and lots of bright lights has evaporated like morning rain.
Passing out in a delicately-laced dress, with neatly stitched petals and leaves was not in her original plan at all. The red rose dress that once outshone all, is now a pasty mahogany shade, and soaking wet, forever stained with lies and her dazzling charm. A royal was getting too interested in her sparkling eyes and gentle curls. Her goal was to distract, but being too distracting was the critical error of last night. Too many questions, and too many white lies that were only causing more and more heads to turn in her direction. One path after the next, her made-up persona is a professional painter who supposedly creates art out of thin air, by staring at canvases and letting them paint themselves by using her own, innermost thoughts. Unfortunately, taking drastic measures to unexpectedly kill all of the interest she built up was the only way to carry out with her true assignment; the only focus she is allowed to have. A whisper in her ear told her to do so, and as a professional actress it was not too difficult to instantly switch the primary focus elsewhere within a moment's notice. Slipping into the shadows is what she is best at, but it is not so easy anymore with thousands of eyes calculating her next moves. Although, part of her wishes that she was who she says she is in these scenes; that she was not trapped under the grasp of greed. With the click of a button from an unknown place, the lights were cut for a measly four seconds. A few gasps and spooks, and it is time for a break. It is not her role to do anything else, or to know anything else, other than to play the part she has been given through the little microphone in her ear. As the pretend painter, she attempts to sell blank canvases with invisible brush strokes scribbled onto them; and that cleared the general area around her rather quickly. The little outage is unnoticeable by most, but the few royals at the party will quickly disperse to their getaways since they know all too well that something's up. They have trained for this, and so has Hinoki. Though, Hinoki's job is now over and she can enjoy the party to the fullest and leave the rest to the others. This party is only a break in her endless shifts; rather a way for her to plot her escape from herself and the trap she is in. She yearns for a day of no more watchful eyes and one where she cannot recognize her original self in the mirror; as an erased being in permanent hiding, yet free. For now, it is best to just pretend to enjoy the few moments loosely granted to her, and to use them wisely. The company grants teensy amounts of rest to ensure its prisoners are drenched in unending work, and deprived of most energy. |
