Curled tightly within the confines of her thick, barnacle-encrusted shell, the tiny snapper pushed once more against the walls. Nothing. Not even the smallest fracture. She squeaked out a cry of panicked frustration as she shifted with difficulty for a better position. The little snapper had been pushing against her shell for quite some time now, with little sucess. She pushed again, forcing her body to uncurl just a little more. crack... The smallest pinprick of light filtered through the fracture.

Outside, the tender voices that had been crooning love since she could remember, murmered encouragement. Smaller croons could be heard in chorus with them. Brothers, her brothers were already there, eagerly awaiting her arrival.

She butted her snout against the crack, straining with all her might. It gave way, but only a little. Why was this taking so long? The tiny Snapper was beginning to feel exhaustion setting in. But the loving voices of her family cheered her on. Mother's voice was taking on an anxious tone. Her little baby could feel the egg rocking as Ripple nudged her smallest egg.

She butted and pushed again, rocking the egg with her effort, spurred on with a new bout of energy. Mother was so close! With a heave, her little snout burst through the thick shell, sending fragments scattering. Salty air filled the baby Snapper's lungs, and as her egg tumbled over- with her in it-, she squeezed her head and neck through.

She blinked brilliantly bright blue eyes against the sun, wiggling fiercely against the fractured walls of her egg. A few more determined kicks and at last, she was free-- sporting a barnacle-encrusted shell hat for her efforts. As she tumbled into the soft warm sands of the Seaside Cove, two big round snouts brushed her sides.

Ripple and Riptide, her mother and father, crooned lovingly at their newest-- if very tiny-- arrival. Three more round faces came into view as her trio of brothers lumbered awkwardly through the sands to meet their sister.

She shook her head, sending her shell hat flying to the ground, to be immidiately pounced on by her nearest brother. Settling into the warm sand, the smallest hatchling laid where she sat, sides heaving with exhaustion.

"My sweet little Minnow.... welcome to Sorienth..." The soft, tender voice of her mother crooned.

Finally, she could see the faces of the parents that had so tenderly cared for her. Minnow's little belly rumbled with faint hunger, but it would have to wait. First... she needed a well deserved nap. And nap she did!

Later, she'd wake nestled between her mothers front feet, with a small pile of assorted fish and tasty greens within reach. The sound of her brothers snoring would give her pause, head tilted in sleepy curiousity, while the large silhouette of father stood gaurd over them all.

Her bright eyes returned to the food pile before her. Now... which morsel to eat first....

Perching Scarlet Macaw Scene: Port Town

The Churnscar Wharf was alive and bustling with the sounds of dragons going about their busy days, a cacophony of sounds all mingling together as dragons bartered for goods, or called out orders as heavy crates were loaded and unloaded from the docks.

Minnow clutched her favorite toy harder in her mouth as she made her way down the warf and towards her new destination. She was still young, but finally old enough to find her place in another lair, and make new friends.

She glanced back over her shoulder, where her parents and brothers all stood on the rocking deck of the ship that bore them here, meeting her gaze with a mixture of pride, joy, and perhaps a touch of sorrow.

Minnow settled her Bubbly Buddy in her sachel, right next to the delicate wrapped lunch of Bluewave Jellyfish, and flashed her family and open-mouthed Snapper-Smile. She'd miss her families private little Cove, the tidal pools with its tropical fish and soft white sand beaches; however the thought of new adventures excited her.

She gave her family one last nod of Farwell, before continuing down the docks towards her new destination, and new friends...
