Biography
We were so young when it happened. He and I were both of wind descent and I had basically known him my entire life. So of course I fell for him, for my best friend.
Seagaze, my sweet love, I dedicate this song and those forever more to come to you…
Seagaze, my sweet love, I dedicate this song and those forever more to come to you…
Rewinding now, my name is Atria. I was the daughter of two irrelevant dragons, raised in an unnamed wind clan. I was insignificant, but was raised to aspire to become a dragoness of great importance. Everyone in this clan pushed for me to become the one to spread word about the lair. What better role to spread word about something than a priestess?
At first, it was difficult. I wasn’t taught everything about the deities that my peers were. I didn’t like keeping quiet and to myself. I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t have friends. They wanted me to spend every hour of every day learning to make up for the fact I didn’t know about what all our deities have done for us. They shush me whenever I pray or sing too loudly. They forced me apart from the only friend I had.

They forced me apart from the only friend I had.
Seagaze – that’s his name – was the first and only friend I’ve ever had. A little sliver of an imperial; he seemed to have been bred for his chosen occupation. Ever since he was young, he would slip in and out of any river or stream we came across, finding fish for us to feed upon. He was there, remembering my name when no one else would. And they forced us apart.
So… I trained in my profession. Working hard every second I could spare, learning how to serve the deities tooth and claw. I eventually became good at what I do, selected to move from my wind clan to a light clan so heavily tainted by shade that rumors have spread across Sornieth about the beasts that lie in that area of the Hewn City.
After preparing for my trip, I was given an extravagant farewell by the lair that I grew up in. Streamers, confetti, baked pastries, hugs and tears and farewells. Faking a smile and small talk, I scanned the vicinity, flitting from area to area, looking. Found him, bingo.

Seagaze, scales still glistening from the latest fishing trip, caught my gaze and lazily grinned before turning and sauntering away. Quickly thinking, I was able to convince the host of the party that I was very grateful for the party, however, my priestess learning has taught me to be more minimal and that I needed a break. Slipping away from the festivities, I found myself reaching a Cliffside grotto.
Barely illuminated, I catch sight of my childhood fisherman friend. Thrilled and somewhat enthralled by the image before me, I held my breath, waiting for him to say something, to move. Tilting his head slightly, he beckoned me to follow him through the maze-like grotto’s heart. There, I found a boat.

“Before leaving me again, would you come with me? One last excursion; we can talk about what we’ve missed with one another. No obsession with deities or fish, no distractions. Just us.”
Paraphrasing, of course. But I went with him. Let’s just say I’m incredibly unstable on boats. But goddess, was the view worth it. I don’t recall where we went, but we chatted and laughed and joked as we passed lava that spilled out onto the water, watched sparks of electricity dance in the air, and soon passed into Light territory, where we grew drowsy in the warm glow. With a tender, loving lullaby, I sang my childhood love to sleep."

Thrashing about, turbulent waters, sudden barriers. I can’t find him, I can’t find him. Boat overturning. Getting thrown into serrated rocks as water plugs the lungs. I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe. Wings breaking, bones shattering. Pain, so much pain. This is my goodbye.
“I love you…”
“I love you…”
Blinding light led to pure darkness. Pain shifted to nothingness. I became one with the water by which I was slain.
And then I felt the gentle light again. I could open my eyes. Everything had a strange, somewhat peculiar turquoise hue to it. But I’m here. I want to sing my praise to the gods for bringing me back.

“You’re… somewhat alive, although you will be restricted. You may only go where this crystal quartz may be, although there’s a loophole in that if you pay close enough attention. Now… I’ll call upon you when I need assistance, lithe siren.” With a flap of butterfly-esque wings, the stranger disappeared.
…Whomever that was, I need to sing. I need to sing to find… someone?
My dear mystery person, hear my song and return to my side. I miss you. I love you.
