The Shattered Plains were practically all Corundum knew before he lost his sight. Born with magical talent in a land of fire, he knew he was destined for greatness. He now knows the folly of his own hubris. To think yourself so great that you are unparalleled. How laughable it is now. One wrong spell clouded his vision, making it near impossible to see. His body contorted and grew, no longer like its former self. He thought this would prove he was as gifted as he thought, alas it only made him look a fool. How he loathed himself for what he had done.

He, quite literally stumbled upon Hematite. He being unable to see much beyond blurred shapes, and her not hearing his approach. When the two collided, panic overtook the pair. Eventually, despite the difficulty in communicating they were able to calm themselves and came to an understanding. There are no hostilities here.
