Biography
Long gone is the time when Mauvaise would freely traverse the realm of the Lightweaver without guards halting his step. Having committed unforgivable crimes in the name of avarice, he had been banished and exiled from his birth domain, swirling into a spiral of guilt which had him only wish to end it all for good. Having only put value into treasury and possessions is fatal once you lose everything. Such a waste of space was never meant to break his shell, or even call himself a dragon, for he no longer had the pride that defined one. Moved by self-hate, he swam to the depths of the sea as deep as his wings could take him, apathetically wishing for the water to crush his body or flood his lungs - whichever came first. Light died around him, and slowly the oxygen was cut from his brain, his eyes narrowed as he braced for the inevitable - though a pair of glowing eyes surged from the deep, dark depths. Unable to discern the shape of the gargantuan creature as he lost his consciousness, the dragon thought he'd never wake up again.
Despite all odds, fate had other plans for him. Thanks to a group of maren that had fished him back to twilight zone, the dragon noticed everything around him felt... bigger. His vision range had increased, the world felt so much wider. Confused, he gazed upon his claws to realize that he was no longer a ridgeback. A quick touch to his face was enough to deduce that the otherwise large, imposing dragon was now a small mirror. He spent so many days out cold that corals had grown all around him, even making a home in his scales. What surprised Mauvaise the most was the fact that the the maren, a kin that had hated dragonkin for as long as he could remember, not only saved him from the dephts, but watched him curiously as if gauging his reactions. They were cautious, as if ready to attack at the first sign of aggression.
After a minute, he noticed that he was able to breathe underwater. He could not understand - why? Why now? All he wanted was to end it all, and yet, he was given a second chance at life. One of the maren had brought him a mirror, and in his reflection, he saw a glowing mark atop his had. It was then that he understood. The sillhouette that had changed his breed had also bestowed to him an additional gift - water affiliation. He had been blessed by the Tidelord.
Upon plenty of consideration, Mauvaise decided to honor the deity's acceptance and turn his life around. His light powers had weakened, but he could now move small bodies of water and withstain some level of pressure. The maren had fed him, and he slowly took the time to learn their names. They somehow knew what the mark on his forehead meant, and in time, he learned their language, and became one of their own. Not knowing his name, they often called him Pelagius, of the sea. He felt a new identity would suit his new life, deciding that he would harness his temper and become a better dragon.
Maybe by work of fate, they met Athena during a migration towards warmer waters. His clan had been nomadic for quite a long time ever since water dragons had conquered and taken over their home. Initially aggressive, they readied for the worst, but were welcomed with the best intentions. It was how they had come across Abalone Bay, a place they could now call home. Local maren were friendly, and so were dragons. Pelagius understood the purpose given to him by the Tidelord - he was to become the ambassador between his maren clan and the dragons. Thankfully he met Orwell, another dragon fluent in their language which encouraged them to stay. He has since become a fisherman, helping Orwell in his research in his spare time. He is said to be quite the jokester these days - you really can't tell he was once a wanted criminal.
