    Like her mother and father, Alsea and Aulon, Persephone is an aide to the Gladekeeper. Like the others that came before her, she received a special Gift at birth. However, unlike most of her ancestors, that Gift was not the ability to pass between Sornieth and the deities' realm; Persephone can instead pass between the worlds of the living and the dead. If they will it, and the Gladekeeper is in favour, she can bring a deceased dragon back to life.

    Alsea knew at her hatching that her daughter Persephone was special. She just didn't learn exactly how until she became old enough to speak. You see, Persephone's brother Felix almost never hatched; a tiny pip formed in his egg, but hours later his anxious parents were still waiting for him to emerge. Alsea and Aulon feared the worst. Just as the heartbroken pair were giving up hope, they realised that Persephone was missing. However, Alsea assured Aulon that this was normal for hatchlings in her family, as controlling their ability to move between realms doesn't develop until later. In their grief they put Persephone's disappearance out of their mind, and didn't make the connection between her popping up in the corner just as Felix burst out of his egg. Relief washed over his parents whilst Persephone stumbled around as if nothing had happened.

    Of course, it later transpired that Felix had passed away before hatching, and Persephone brought him back. It wasn't until she matter-of-factly told Alsea that she found Felix "in the other place" and a huge, leafy dragon told her to take him back to their mum that anyone had any idea what she was capable of. Since then, Persephone has saved hundreds of dragons from an untimely death under the watchful eye of the Gladekeeper, and helped elderly and very sick dragons "cross over" peacefully.
