These large marine reptiles are most commonly found in all oceans except polar regions. These guys spend the first 3-5 years of their lives in seaweed mats and then when they reach adult hood they move closer to shore. Fun Fact due to COVID humans visited the beaches less often (shocker) and the sea turtle population saw an increase in nesting due to less traffic, noise, and pollution.
Sea turtles will mate in the sea then females will lay their eggs on land. The females dig circular hole that range from 40-50cm wide and then can lay up to 50-350 eggs. After laying she will refill the hole with sand. females can lay up to 1-8 clutches in a breeding season. The sex of sea turtles is temperature dependent being as warmer temperatures produce females and cooler temperatures produce males.
A foraging sea turtle can spend from 5-40 minutes underwater while a sleeping turtle can spend up to 4-7 hours underwater.
