CORALLIUM RUBRUM - "UBRU"- //- - THE OUTSIDER
- - - Uh-oh, looks like this pretty little sea star wandered a little too far from it's home lair #701274, and now it's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, it'd really appreciate it if you could just return it to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. If you'd like to keep this dragon for your clan, then feel free to ask, but please keep it traveling!

I was born from an unexpected crossroads romance.

You've heard something like it in every old love story. Two dragons from a different elemental clan find each other, fall in love, have a forbidden relationship, and eventually, an egg. Though, my circumstances are a little less... dramatic.

Mother is an ambassador from the nearby water clan, and traded places with a dragon of this clan as a peaceful gesture between clans. Where she settled was at a hub where mostly foreign dragons resided, and that was where she met Father. Mother hasn't retold details after that period to me yet (She would only giggle and groom my scales, saying 'Maybe when you're older!'), but the important thing is, eggs were made, and that was how me and my siblings were born.

An Earthly child, from parents of Shadow and Water. How outrageous, if a little amusing.

Our clan has been accepting of this situation. Despite being in the domain of Earth, there are more dragons of different elemental origin, that we joke about being a "bigger melting pot than Baldwin's cauldron". An Earthly child of Earth origins would be more out of place. We are made to feel welcome.

But I feel out of place anyways.

When Mother tells me stories about her time in Water clan, as well as the community, the culture, of Water-born drakes, she often has a look of longing in her eyes. Despite our community bustling population, our roots are still shallow, so most celebrations are taken from the dragon's previous clan. Rarely do two dragons share the same heritage, so many celebrate alone, including my mother.

I wonder sometimes; if I was born in a place where culture has already been established, would we be able to find our place easier? Could a united culture help our community thrive and support each other?

Could it make Mother happy?

I want to know.

So, today I will pack my bags, and give an embrace to my family that I won't give for a long time.

See you where the sand resides.

My first stop was Shadow territory.

I knew not of what I was going to experience here, although I knew that the denizens of this flight were tricksters, if nothing else. Still, I ventured into the closest clan I could find with an open mind. Maybe these dragons weren't as conniving as the rest of the world wanted me to believe.

Unfortunately, I seemed to have been proven wrong.

A group of about five Spirals descended onto me before I could reach the main clan grounds, and each took turns heckling me. Each had the appearance of a demon, and that is what I thought they were. I did not learn their names, nor their professions, although not that I wanted to.

I had been rescued by a different dragon, but they disappeared before I could get the chance to thank them properly.

...I believe that it's best if I move on with my journey. This clan evidently has problems, and cannot assist me in my original goal.

My next stop was in Starflower Grove, a small garden tucked away in the corner of the Mirrorlight Promenade. This was a first for me, as I'd never interacted with anyone from Light before - it must be so different from everything I've seen before!

The dragons here are quite curious too. Most of them come from all around Sornieth, and yet they all manage to live in harmony. I was really curious as to how they did it, as I thought that they would have lots more arguments as they all come from different backgrounds and cultures!

What they told me was really interesting - apparently as they all see themselves as a part of nature, like the trees and stars, they've managed to connect and bond due to this, and now share a common culture despite being from different places!

I feel like it's quite cool to be able to create your own culture with people you connect with, so hopefully I'll get to meet someone like that in my next journey...
