A sapphire blue dragon lay on the ground, her legs splayed out. Her neck was twisted in an awkward position. She was dead, her neck snapped brutally. The dragon's spirit looked down sadly.

As the soul floated around, gazing at her house, a cry came out. It sounded like a shriek of pain mixed with fear and love and sadness. The spirit of the dragon swept into the room where her body lay. A dark midnight blue dragon was hunched over her body, weeping and gathering her claws in his.

The dragon sat up, tears spilling down his face.

"Why?" he cried out to the air. "Why did you leave me, Sapphire?"

A rustle. Then silence. The soft noise drew the dragon's gaze back to the body, underneath the wings. A small figure was wriggling out of the soft fur and feathers. The male dragon gasped, clutching his talons to his heart.

A moment later, a tiny blue dragonet crawled out from under her mother's limp wing. The dragonet squeaked, and a heartbeat later, another miniature version of Sapphire grasped the cold stone floor.

"My... dragonets?" The dragon whispered, gathering them up in his midnight blue arms. The first dragonet looked up at her father, her eyes glistening in the moonlight.

Drifting upwards to the sky, Sapphire's spirit smiled down at them before becoming a star in the midnight sky.

"Father!" Wish called, stumbling into her father's office. Her father was a large dark blue dragon with black stripes and shimmering runes embedded into his scales. He was sitting on a wool chair with trophies shelved on the walls. The trophies shined and shimmered, flashing the words Trance at her.

"What's wrong, Wish?" Trance asked, furrowing his eyebrows. Wish huffed.

"Adoness bit me!" she pouted. Her brother Adoness ran into the room.

"I deny it!" he said. "Okay, maybe I did bite her! But she stepped on my tail!"

Trance rubbed his forehead with one talon. He sighed.

"Kids, I can't deal with you squabbling all the time," Trance said "With Sapphire gone and no job, it's really hard to take care of you. I actually have been thinking of sending you to stay with your aunt, my sister Truth."

Wish shuddered. Her aunt Truth should've been named Lies. After Wish and Adoness went to her house for the first time, they knew immediately that she was bad news. Truth had babied them, helping them with everything until Adoness had accidentally broken her favorite vase.

"But you shoved me into it!" Adoness had yelled at her.

"You are just like your father! Ruining things and blaming it on me, innocent me!" Truth had roared back.

When Trance had arrived, Truth had cooled down but was still angry with Adoness and Wish. Wish had hoped to never set foot in her home again!

Wish sat miserably on Truth's fur rug. Trance made her and Adoness come, and they were so mad at him. Truth would keep glaring at them, and would only speak to them if they bothered her enough. Once, a dragonet about Wish's age had arrived at the front door. He had come to sell some jewelry to Truth. But Truth took the goods and never paid him back.

"Truuth!" Adoness called. Truth peeked her head in the room, her eyes narrowed with anger and disgust.

"What is it now, grub?"

"I'm hungry!"
