x jessie // hertfordshire zoo x ━━━━━━━━━━ ❄️ x jessie was born on the twenty-eighth of april 2014 in welsh mountain zoo , a zoo that works hard regarding the conservation and protection of vulnerable or endangered species and also works alongside a global effort of the snow leopard trust to protect those left in the wild . she arrived in hertfordshire zoo in 2015 , paired with a male named panaj to become part of a breeding project that avoids any genetic issues on the surface level , working hard alongside the eaza ex-situ programme [ eep ] to keep those bred in captivity healthy . initially , when she wasn’t mature biologically , she was a little adverse to sharing her space with panaj . however , this changed quite dramatically as she matured , and the pair of them became inseparable , one of the zoo’s power couples . the pair of them gathered quite some traction on social media over the years ! " there is something magical about the snow leopard . it’s as if it holds the secrets of the mountains and whispers them to those who are lucky enough to catch a glimpse . " ☆ |

unfortunately , as of the twenty-seventh of january 2024 , panaj passed away due to a short-lived-illness , which has left her without her iconic mate . however , jessie is still living happily on her own . in the wild , snow leopards are mostly solitary animals once they reach maturity , so it hasn’t had much impact on her , despite sharing her space with him for many years , due to natural instincts . this behaviour is actually positive to see in captivity , as she’s still expressing her natural behaviours . right now , even if she remains a part of the breeding programme , there are no immediate plans to introduce a new mate to her . |
