Biography
A relative newcomer to the Barbvine clan, Haem defected from the clutches of Nature into the gruesome embrace of the Plague flight. Despite what he was taught at birth, the Plague flight he stumbled into has been gracious, assuring, and largely very supportive, and it is with deep satisfaction he intends to stay.
Quote:
"Hello."
Haem is struck down by a blow to the back of the knees, one from each side, at his front and back legs. It takes him by surprise, forces him into a bow, and the mirror he was addressing nods to those either side of him. The two guards, a guardian and another mirror, look at each other and shrug.
"You have the greatest pleasure of addressing Lord Thistle, of the Barbvine clan," a nearby ridgeback says smoothly, "I hope that you will apply the appropriate level of deference."
Haem blinks, and nods.
"Oh, of course, my lord. It wa ssimply that I had never seen your pleasant visage before, and I was merely struck by how imposing you are in the flesh!"
The irony of an Obelisk addressing such a cranky old mirror was not hard to see, but Haem pushes forward.
"I come from the boughs of the Gladekeeper--" There were hisses in the surrounding ranks, and Haem ignores them-- "To defect to the clearly superior flight."
He doesn't mention that he didn't really intend to go to Plague, he just kind of ended up there. The mirror nods pleasantly, extending a claw to him and helping him up.
"The pleasure is, of course, all mine, young obelisk. Pray excuse our aggressive introductions, for Nature dragons are none too popular here, since the fiasco with the First Seed. You understand, of course."
Haem doesn't, he's far too young for that, but nods anyway. The mirror continues.
"What shall we call you, young man? What shall your new family address you as?"
Haem smiles. He'd been thinking about a new name all the way over, had even been thinking of variations had he ended up in another flight.
"Call me Haem, sir."
